Description

I made this to organize and hold my dpns (double-pointed needles).

Updated to include some more information about how I made it:

I used a fat quarter to make this. The main piece and the pockets (11 of them) are all cut out separately. I allowed about 1/2" for the seams on each side of the main piece so I could fold it twice. They're not all even by any means. The little pockets have about a 1/4" seam allowance on each side (except the bottom), and they have a finished size of just shy of 1.5". I first ironed the edges down and then pinned them to the back piece where I wanted them. The bottom seam on the main piece goes on top of the pockets (so I didn't need a seam allowance for the pockets on the bottom edge). Then when I had everything pinned I sewed all the seams. I think I did the main outside one first, then the pockets.

I don't remember why I wanted to do individual pockets instead of just cutting a larger main piece and folding it, then sewing dividers to form the pockets. You could do that too and it would be much quicker.

Finished size is 16" wide by 8.5" tall spread out.

Did you use a pattern or just wing it? I've been wanting to make one of these for my grandmother.

ArloDeanQuilts I didn't use a pattern, just made it up based on the dimensions of the needles I had. I bet there are lots of patterns for these out there, though.

That's so cool that you designed this yourself. I'd like to try making one of these for my sister sometime. Do you have any tips?

sew_what Thanks! I updated the project information just now with some basic info about how I did it. It was pretty easy, really.
