Description

Recently I made a trip back to NH. My mother sold her house of nearly 50 years and gave us some treasured family things - one being this antique quilt made my my Great Grandmother, Fanny Bartlett. It is all hand pieced and quilted and I totally love it! I especially love having something my Great Grandmother made - she was quite a woman...not only did she make quilts, but she hunted moose (into her old age) and drove a red sports car in her 70s! I remember visiting her at her cabin in the Canadian woods where we had to use an outhouse and us kids slept in the hunting room!! This is a quilt I will treasure forever.

True Thanks, Mary! My great grandmother was ahead of her time...she was quite a woman and I was lucky to know her before she passed :)

Love this story, too!! Was checking for a "moose" tag!?!

You are certainly fortunate to own something so special. It looks so beautifully made, Wendy. Now we are seeing where you fabulous skills come from. I bet you are like her in many ways .

You will definitely have to keep this under lock & key (i.e. Conni, Cathy and Mary). And look at that scrappy pieced inner border not to mention those plates!!! I am jealous.I don't know how you were able to snatch this away from Paula! I guess it was meant to be since you've had that picture of Fanny in her red hat...

Quilterinmotion I like to think I have some of her genes :) Thanks!

Terryt1955 You are thinking of my Nana (which was Fanny's daughter) in the red hat :) Actually each of us got one of Fanny's quilts...so no snatching from each other was needed :) They are all beautiful!

LOL, leave it to me to mix up the generations! But I do remember you talking about Fanny after I mentioned the picture so that's what stuck. Quite the memorable character! Did you take pictures of the other quilts as well? I would love to see them.

When I first saw this I thought, "OMG when did turbo make this one". Your taste is very much like your great grandmothers. I love this. It is truly overwhelming how beautiful it really is and to think it is hand done. I can not wait to see in person and fondle it. I will bring white gloves.

I saw this the other day and wanted to let you know how beautiful it was, but I'm just now getting around to it.
You are so lucky to have such beautiful heirlooms to pass down through your family. I was not as fortunate and my Mother didn't hand any of my Grandmothers beautiful crafts down to me. You are truly blessed.

Caribousmom

Terryt1955 I didn't get photos of the others :(
Quilt455 Thanks, Cathie :) And you will definitely get to see it in person!
Skynme Thanks, Erica - I do feel lucky to have this in my home!
