Love fabrics...what are you not loving and can you switch it things around to like it better?
What don't you like about your color choices? I love these colors together...
Caribousmom True I feel like it's a little dull and blah but I tend towards bright colors so that's probably what it is. I think it will make a very nice quilt though. I am thinking of switching up a couple of blocks and using a slightly different background color - we'll see. Thanks for your comments - makes me feel better!!
I like the colors as well.
Thank you Cseawright - it's nice to get unbiased opinions. I know I'm too hard on myself sometimes
I don't know of this will apply to you or not BUT for me this QAL is having me make a quilt in a very different manner than I usually do. I never make all one block then the next, etc. for a couple reasons. One I like to see how blocks will look together so tend to do some of each. And I also find I get a little more bored doing same blocks all in a row. Anyway my point is I have found I look at just block one and think do I like this??? But when pull out other fabrics and remind myself of other blocks to come I do.
True That is part of the problem, especially because the first block uses the most muted fabric in my selection. I was half tempted to jump the gun and put together a couple of the other blocks to see but I'm just going to trust my instincts.
I love these colors and I do think it's one of the quieter blocks in the quilt so don't second guess yourself. Think of it as the resting spot for your eye. Do like Mary says and just keep looking at your other fabrics that will be used later.
True and HawkFan , I'm breathing deep sighs of relief and laughing at the same time. Can you picture that???? I just told a friend last night that doing this method of a QAL is so opposite what I normally do that I didn't know if I could stay with the plan and not sneak off to do a few of the others blocks too. I never do just one section of the quilt and work in this manner.
Maybe it's a good lesson in patience and trusting in our choices to do this. Audrey, I like those two colors together. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum and bring a vibration to the block that perhaps you can't hear over the hum of your indecision.
I am impatient to see how the others colors will add life to this block but I will hold off...if I possibly can. LOL
I am so with all of you on this ... I don't like doing the same block over and over...but I do think this will be a good learning curve for us and show us just how awesome we all are at choosing fabrics LOL!
Really like your fabric.
Quilt455 Thanks Cathie - I'm making some more of these with a different orange fabric. I may use both in the quilt
Caribousmom , I do think we will all learn something from this. I finished the ninth block yesterday and have to say I was so glad to be done with that block!
I really liked your first block but love your second one... Great switch! What is the new fabric? And congrats on having all 9 done!
HawkFan I love the new orange you chose. But I like brights a lot. Love softer colors as well!! I guess it just depends what look you are after! You that have all 9 blocks done already shall be named the TURBOETTES...as Wendy is the main Turbo! Hope that's ok!! Great block :)
True Thanks Mary. I considered doing 5 of one version and 4 of the other but that first fabric just seemed a bit dull. I'm afraid I don't know what the fabric is. I've had it in my stash for a while and there wasn't a selvage on it. I'm terrible about noting what fabrics are
LOL! On a more serious note - I really like both oranges you used, Audrey :)
That;s the beauty of this pattern, you can switch out the fabric in the same block to give it a bit more variety. And when joined with the other blocks I think it's going to look great. The trick I think, is staying in the same color wheel.
I had plans to do the first block but looks like I'm joining Carolmarie in the Slowettes.
Love block two's center fabric! Gorgeous.
True Thanks Mary. That's the fabric I built the whole thing around. I picked it up when I was in Boston in May
I got to see it for first time in person when I went to Alewives Fabrics and loved it! Such an excellent choice.
Looks awesome, Audrey - love that block two with the fussy cut center!
HawkFan , I have to agree with the others. That fussycut block is the cat's meow! It's an awesome block with that center!
Conniharns Oh yes he does! And he vacumns and mops too. Why do you think I have so much time to quilt!??!?!? LOL
I love how the flower center of Block #2 picks up that orange in block #1.
Quilterinmotion Thank you Marsha - I had the flower fabric in hand as I wandered through the shop looking for coordinating oranges. I wound up helping another woman pick out oranges for a different project at the same time
Your good deed for that day. You are a nice person, Audrey!
Love your fussy cut center block. This is going to be wonderful. I am so excited to see them all finished.
Quilt455 Thanks Cathie - I'm looking forward to seeing them all finished too. Everyone picked beautiful fabrics
Wow! this one is calling my name. Wonderful.
Love your newest block!!
Your block three is gorgeous - love the fussy cut center!
Love your latest block! The colors are smashing!
Love the fussy cut center, it makes it POP!
HawkFan Great block Hawkfan! I love that center block. I should have thought about fussy cutting my center! Very nice.
You already know that I love this, but it really is pretty. Those beautiful center flowers are a great touch!
True Thanks Mary! I see what you mean about a lot of work. I got a lot of the fabric cut for the others. Definitely not going to do them all in one sitting
Skynme Thanks Erica. You get to see everything twice LOL. I am really happy with the block which makes it easier to spend the time it takes to make them
I really LOVE Block #3, Audrey. Beautiful block and your fussy cutting & paper piecing really make it fantastic!. You are going to have an incredible quilt. I think the simplicity of your Block 1&2 are going to make Blocks 3 (and four most likely) really the the crowning glory of the quilt.
Quilterinmotion Thanks Marsha. After seeing this first block 3, I am much happier and I wish I had the time to crank them all out so I can see the quilt top with them in place. I agree that I think it'll make a big difference with the quilt. It has been an interesting way to construct a top
Still love your fussy cut center. As I have made it well know, I am not a lover of orange, but this orange is so pretty, I might have to change my mind.
Love it, it has kind of a neon glow that I just LOVE. Cant wait to see the big finish!
Skynme Thanks Erica. It does really show up neon in the pictures. It's bright but not that bright, just my mediocre photography skills LOL
Really like the print in middle of block four... And very creative switch there!!
Wow- this is my first time seeing yours- just beautiful- love the flower in the center- has a great summer feel to it!
True I was debating between the gray floral fabric I picked up on our shopping trip or this one. The other prints tend towards more geometric and straight lines so I went with that. I decided to make the switch to add more color since there are more block 3s than 4s. Trying to make the best of a quilt I'm not in love with
Mymble Thanks Margaret - I picked up the flower fabric (Pretty Potent) in a fabric shop in Cambridge. If we're ever there at the same time (& have some offspring-duty free time, we'll have to go to it)
HawkFan A fabric shop in Cambridge- is that Gather Here? That is on my visit list when I get back to Boston! You will not have to do any convincing to get me to fabric shop!
Mymble Yep that's the one. Small but she had some very new fabrics. There are a couple of others in the area that I found too
Mymble There's also the Cambridge Quilt shop - again a small place but I found some nice fabric there. Parking is easier there since they have a parking lot. Gather Here is in a house so you may wind up parking several blocks away.
Carolmarie Thanks Carol. The nice thing about blocks 3 and 4 is they're identical except for the center so when you're making your 3s, you can audition different center ideas (and corner blocks if you want) and you can see immediately what they'll look like with the others.
I love that dark center in your block 4, audrey!
Ok this picture is too cute and I want to pin it to my Pinterest board...I love this quilt, I would have a hard time letting this go. You did an amazing job on it!
Really love the sun shot!! And Scout is so darn cute...the quilt really looks awesome and I cannot wait to have mine this far!
Skynme Thanks Erica. I need the encouragement. It's not a favorite of mine but that's probably because it was pretty time-intensive. I am liking it more now that it's together
True Thanks Mary - pets make everything look better don't they? Thanks for being our fearless leader on this project!
Thank you Carolmarie - I was anxious to get mine done too so I stayed up until after midnight last night working on it.
Wow this is wonderful and are you way ahead. Good for you. Love your fabric
Beautiful quilt, and most likely the cutest puppy ever!
Quilt455 Thanks Cathie - after feeling behind on a lot of my projects, it's nice to be ahead on one
HawkFan Wowee...you go girl!! Your quilt looks fabulous!! Can't believe you have it pieced together already! But I know what you mean...just want to get it done! I had to take a break for a couple weeks and now I am ready to start block 4!!
I love the photo with scout! Your quilt looks amazing all assembled- it really is bursting with sunshine and the flowers are so wonderful!
Conniharns Thanks Conni - my schedule is pretty packed over the next month+ so I'm glad not to have this hanging over my head.
Mymble Thank you Margaret. I wasn't liking it as I was making it because I thought the background I chose was too dark but it's growing on me. Now my problem is all that negative space that has to be quilted LOL.
HawkFan , Scout really is perfect in the middle of the quilt. I think he's about the cutest pup I've seen .... since my friend's Corgi arrived a few weeks ago. The quilt...to say the least....is fantastic. I love those flowers and hope someday to get some of that fabric. I'm so jealous that your's is finished. That was my plan for this week before we head to FLA but LIFE gets in the way and we were just consumed with the death of Bud's sister and all that entails for him as her survivor. The quilt might go to Quilt Retreat with so I can get it finished in October!
Quilterinmotion Thanks Marsha. She's learning about sitting on quilts just like the cats - must be an instinct. I was bound and determined to finish the top this weekend and fortunately I didn't have one of those days where things go wrong. I probably would have tried to push through. Apropos of nothing, Scout is named for a character in To Kill a Mockingbird - one of my all time favorite books. It was my daughter's suggestion. My condolences to you and Bud. I know he's got quite a bit ahead of him.
Wow, you kicked it out, Audrey!!! And it is gorgeous!!! Although, Scout is stealing the show in that one photo :) What a cutie!
HawkFan , thank you. Scout is a cute name. Our son almost named their black lab pup Scout, but Trooper won out. I wish I could pick Scout up and hug him. What an adorable creature he is! Your quilt is fantabulous!!!!
Quilterinmotion She was named Daisy when we got her from the rescue group but that name didn't fit our family's style. I loved my daughter's idea and we renamed her Scout. She is definitely hug-able and affectionate so she puts up with lots of attention.
I showed Scout's picture to my SIL and grandson. They want a pug now! They have a yellow lab, Penny Lane. I won't be surprised if they get a pug. Scout is a great salesman.
