My wonderful almost four year old grandson has been wanting a doll. So what is a Nana to do but make one!! Abby from Abby Glassenberg Design
makes the most amazing stuffed toy patterns. I have loved her Liam fleece doll
and quickly ordered her pattern ebook: A Family of Dolls
I love this fleece doll . . . he's 20 inches tall, soft, washable and best of all has parts that are securely sewn and safe. Of course, since I was making one, I just had to make another for baby Finn who just turned one, adores his big brother and wants everything that Cameron has. Finn's hair is longer so his doll has longer hair than Cameron's. They are just the same but different colored shirts and I added a pocket with each boy's initial on it.
I used Pellon 830 Easy Pattern to trace all the pattern pieces. This made it MUCH easier to lay on the thick fabric and once they are made, they last forever. I bought various colors of fleece for the dolls and since it doesn't take much, I have lots left for my scrap pile for future projects.
After ordering my safety eyes online at Amazon, I found that they were also at my local JoAnn's. I used my walking foot to stitch it together since the fabric becomes pretty thick in places, especial sewing the back of the body to the front.
The pattern was great with lots of pictures and detailed instructions. The only error I did make was one of the doll's hands ended up a little backwards but he still looks great !
