Description

The weather was so lousy today that we did indoor activities (after we finished working in the campground for 3 hours this morning...in the rain!)  I decided my 4th of July activity was going to be making my July pillow for the Pillow Pop swap.

Several years ago I made a red, white and blue quilt as part of the Red, White and Blue Blog Hop created by Mdm. Sam.  I had plenty of leftovers pieces and decided I would make my Crystallized pillow using those leftovers.

I enjoy making HSTs, fortunately, as there are many of them in this pillow!   I had a 16" pillow form waiting for a pillow so "Born on the Fourth of July" was created.

The back is pieced of more of the bigger pieces of leftover fabric from the quilt.  I did +Caribousmom's hidden zipper technique and this time I decided not to put piping on the pillow.  It's an extra step and the pillow is for me so I'm happy with no fancy finish.

I chose to offset the center of my pillow as I thought it created a bit more interest.  I also decided to quilt with red and blue threads continuing the red, white and blue theme.  I don't know if I would do that again but this was just a fun pillow so I had a little extra fun with it!

Great new pillow...I really like the offsetting of the center! And what a great way to celebrate this very wet 4th!!

Carolmarie , thank you. I try to make the best of every situation. Quilting seems to make that easy.
