Description

I am very happy to have been accepted into the do. Good Stitches group on Flickr. I've been assigned to the "Cheer" circle which donates quilts to Project Linus.

This quilt charity bee is the brainchild of Rachel Hauser of Stitched in Color and the goal of the group is to make quilts for children in need. Members can choose to either be stitchers (complete 2 blocks for their circle per month) or quilters ( All Quilters make blocks each month, just like a Stitcher. In addition, the Quilters take turns planning, assembling and finishing a quilt once every 5 months). I decided I would be able to commit to being a stitcher...and August is my first month to make blocks!

August Blocks:

Mary is the quilter for August and she has requested saturated blocks using HSTs: one using warm solids (or fabrics reading as solid) and one using cool solids (or fabrics reading as solids). Finally I have a great project to dig into my solids stash! I had plenty of warm colors to choose from and decided to make that block first using the following colors from the Cotton Couture solids collection: raspberry, candlelight (it looks like a cream in the photo - but trust me, it is a light shade of yellow), mango and tangerine. I also pulled out a Bella scarlet for a bright splash of red.  The cool block uses the follow Bella Solid colors: Bluebell, Bright Sky, Kelly, Terrain Iris, and Wisteria.

September Blocks:

Wendi is the quilter for September and she has requested paper pieced stars (go here to get the pattern by Faith at Fresh Lemons). This quilt will be for a boy, so Wendi is asking us to choose from the following color combinations for our star points: blue/red, blue/aqua, blue/orange or blue/green. She's changed the background to a low volume (I used a chicken wire print of light gray and white) and asked that we also use Kona medium gray. I picked the blue/aqua and blue/orange color palettes for my two blocks. They came together quickly!

October Blocks:

Amber is the quilter for October and requested a cross block using low volume fabrics for a scrappy background. I've been looking at these quilts on line and was so excited to try out a couple of blocks.

November Blocks:

Sarah lives in Hawaii and requested pineapple blocks (with low volume background fabrics) for her quilt. The tutorial for this block may be found here.

I want whatever you're on! Beautiful blocks, no surprise there, and I'm amazed you are so productive. I am jealous of your energy!

Caribousmom

True Thanks, Mary - paper piecing does yield perfect seams, doesn't it?

Terryt1955 LOL. Well, these blocks only took me about 2 hours once I got all the pieces cut out. I have a long to-do list with some commitments, so I am trying to be productive and efficiently use my time!

Dtscrapper

Great star blocks! And perfect points!

Caribousmom

Dtscrapper Thanks, Paula :)

Caribousmom

Capetowngirl Thanks!

Ibtreerock

I love the pineapple!!!

HawkFan

I have that pineapple block pinned - I love it and your versions are great!

Quilt455

Great job. I do not know how you did it with such small squares. I be freaking out if I had to make them. Hehehe

Caribousmom

Ibtreerock Thank you! It is a cute block to make :)
HawkFan It is a picky little block, Audrey. I suggest a mini quilt or pillow because making enough blocks to make a quilt might drive you insane! LOL
Quilt455 Thanks, Cathie. I just reminded myself it is just fabric :)

HawkFan

Yep, the plan was a mini and if I make it, I'll make bigger blocks. I hadn't actually looked at the tutorial so see how tiny her blocks are

HawkFan

Although.....if this was my pick as a bee block I'd only have to make one or two.....Don't worry, I'm kidding!!

Caribousmom

HawkFan This could easily be re-sized into a bigger block (that would be my vote!)...and hahahahaha re: chosing this for your bee block!!

Quilt455

Hawkfan....please do not give me heart failure. I am not as brave as turbo.
