Description

A1790s outfit made to illustrate a workshop on Georgian women's clothing.

I used patterns from Sense and Sensibility - the Regency Wardrobe one and the Undergarments one.

The chemise is made from linen and is entirely hand-stitched, as is the cap. The cap is a very simple one - I was running out of time!

The short stays are made with 3 layers of fabric - a cotton drill, a rustic linen, and Moda quilting cotton. The dress fabric is Moda quilting cotton.

Although the stays fitted, I'm no longer young, and there was insufficient support to stop 'the girls' from slipping down below the cup (see picture of me wearing them). So, I've added six rows of cording into the front panels below the cup. This was fairly quick to do, and improved things considerably, but there is still slippage.  I doubt they'd work well for a day's activities! Next project will be full stays from the Laughing Moon pattern.

Quite the undertaking, what a great job.

Thanks, ladies! It was fun, if rushed :) Now I have 6 months to prepare for the Jane Austen festival - which will mean several days' worth of clothes!

Those turned out fantastic, really detailed and looks quite difficult as well. Great job!
