Description

I'm participating in the September (2014) feather swap using the AMH feather pattern. I actually found this tutorial to be especially helpful in making these - thanks Marsha for posting that link!

Sept 28, 2014 - Made another set for the swap. I had a couple of extra sides so I decided to put a single piece of fabric on the opposite side. I wasn't sure if I would like the asymmetry but I do like the look of it. I got the idea from the pattern - the author makes a few feathers that way.

Oct 21, 2014 - just opened my package of feathers I got it the swap. So excited to take a picture you can still see all the folds in the blocks! Looking forward to making something with these.

cally68

Love your feathers! These are so fun.

HawkFan

True Thanks Mary - when I was cutting the fabrics I wasn't sure but kept telling myself it was small pieces of each

HawkFan

Caribousmom Thanks Wendy. They are a bit of a pain though

HawkFan

libellenart Thanks Michelle - I know you posted on the swap page about wanting to join. Marsha was looking for others to join the swap so I'm sure when she's back online she'll welcome you. Keep checking back on the page

True

HawkFan I think projects like this are so perfect for his fabrics...

True

HawkFan oops hit wrong button...and also I felt that way when did mine but found the mixing of them really worked because of the smallness of the pieces.

HawkFan

True I'm trying to decide if I want to make more. I love the look but not the time. I did figure out a couple of ways to make it easier so I may give it a go. I have fabrics in the orange-yellow-red colorway picked out

True

HawkFan so agree they are time consuming!! But so beautiful

True

Just love your new feathers!!!

HawkFan

Thanks Mary. Definitely done making them though.

Drnic2c

HawkFan I love your feathers. I can't wait to get some in the swap. I do understand how you feel about making them. I think I am done after this project.

HawkFan

Thanks Drnic2c I'm excited to get the swap feathers. I think the variety will make a fun project.

Caribousmom

Ooooh, love the second set of these! Gorgeous colors!

HawkFan

Caribousmom Thanks Wendy. I'm looking forward to getting the swapped ones and deciding what to make

Quilterinmotion

HawkFan . So happy you made another five feathers. They're awesome. I agree that the tutorial was immensely helpful. I did enjoy making them this time around more than the first. I have some halves left over so I may do solid halves if I determine I need more. I can't wait to see these in person!

HawkFan

Quilterinmotion Marsha the solid halves are such a nice break from doing the strips and I think it looks fine. Thanks again for hosting the swap

Quilterinmotion

HawkFan , you are so welcome. I'm sure I'll make some of the solid halves to finish the leftovers I have. No more piecing those strips for feathers. I'm glad I did it as I've wanted some AMH feathers for a while now and I'm excited to get a variety from our TB gals who joined the swap.

Caribousmom

Love them - can't wait to see what you do!

HawkFan

Caribousmom I saw something on IG with a feather and a star - I might try something along those lines.

Mymble

So beautiful- bummed I had to sit out that swap- maybe she will do it again next year:)

HawkFan

Mymble It is nice to see all the variations everyone made. Now the pressure is on to do something worthy of them

True

HawkFan

True I'm excited to find some time to play with them!
