This was a Luke Haynes Quilt along pattern, and I wanted to try something funky for my IG swap partner. It is a 3 layer raw edge applique deer on a funky background fabric. I used mostly Utopia fabric for this project. The pattern was for a 30" quilt but I shrunk it down to fit into the guideline for the mini swap. The quilt is about 18"X20" without the binding on. I still need to do a label and binding to finish it up. I'm getting some mixed reviews on it but for the most part I think she will like it.
If not I have until Dec 1st to make another one LOL.Made an Ellie travel case and everything is ready to ship out next week.
So cool is it fun?
Carolmarie LOL it's a multi layered deer appliquéd to a background of Utopia fabric. Don't worry, I'm getting mixed reviews on it. May have to try again with a little less wild
I think it's amazing. What was the theme of your swap? Do you expect to get something of this type in return or is it very open-ended? Looks like it would be a fun experiment AND if you enjoyed doing it, it is a success regardless of reviews. LOL
Quilterinmotion there was no theme for this one. I just went off her likes. I don't know what I will get in return. I had fun making this one, another one is definately in the future.
Skynme , I think the juxtaposition of the deer with the background makes a very strong statement, which is probably why the mixed reviews. It's interesting to me that your fabric choices are discordant, as is the imagery. I like it, it's edgy, and unique. A brave piece!
I just love how you're experimenting. So creative!!
HawkFan Thanks! This was a super fun project and I love how it turned out. I spent more time trying to find fabrics then actually putting it together. I definitely want to make more of these, but I need a good x-acto knife before I do another one. Also linens do not work well with small pieces because they fray really easy. You should try this pattern, it was a lot of fun.
Wow you have one lucky partner...this is all amazing. Love that bag!!
