Barbie's Mermaid Tail 2014 by Speattle
Barbie mermaid tail
My almost 4 year old granddaughter has a Barbie doll that likes to take baths with her. Granddaughter always wants a mermaid tail on the doll, so in the tub we have been wrapping a washcloth around Barbie and out of the tub, we use a rubber band to hold a hand towel around the doll.
So, today I found a bit of the leftover swimsuit fabric that I used to make all 3 of my grandgirls suits and made Barbie a proper mermaid tail.
I googled for the inspiration and found a good one online. I'll try to find it to link. Only thing I did different was to not make the little bodice bra thing and instead, just slid the tail waist up over the Barbie's bust for modesty. If I were to do this again, I'd probably add a half inch to the over all length, but this works fine as is.
I used a 1/4 inch seam allowance and used the stretch stitch on my machine and used a stretch needle. To hem the raw top edge I just folded it over once and used a narrow zig-zag. I did this after sewing the sides, but it would probably be easier to do it after just sewing up one side.
I think my Granddaughter will love it. She has been insisting that Barbie have a blue tail.
This took all of about 30 mintues. Such a tough project!
Sigh, I wish I were as easy to dress as Barbie. Just put on a stretchy tube and look great! Maybe in my next life....
