Black crow and pumpkins
While traveling South, I had my wool applique for handwork to entertain myself. Driving 6 hours a day, usually, does get a bit boring. I usually stick my earbuds in (my husband is a very silent driver) and enjoy a good book while I stitch. (I listened to "House Rules" by Jodi Picoult which is an awesome book!!!)
The design came from a Wool Applique FB group I belong to. Trish Harriman, from Maine, is a designer and gave a free PDF download to the members. I liked the looks of it and pulled my wool for it before we packed for trip South.
A friend gave me the very fuzzy golden orange wool I used for the pumpkin. The rest of the wool I upcycled from thrift shop wool blazers I found, washed and felted. I used a piece of wool felt for the background, cotton for the backing and regular cotton batting. The binding is also a cotton fabric.
I FMQ'd the wallhanging, first with pumpkins to give the illusion of a pumpkin patch and then just got silly with my FMQing and used a mix of stitches. It was a fun piece to do and I'll enjoy it on my wall for a few more weeks until Christmas encroaches.
