Description

I wanted to try out the disappearing 4-patch, a simple technique for getting a lovely pattern.  I hadn't seen (m)any quilts with this pattern using a dark background--usually it is on white/neutral, or the "background" for each block is different, as far as I can tell--so I wanted to see what I could do with that.

This quilt was made with my mother-in-law in mind.  She loves being by the beach, whether in Maryland, Massachusetts, or Florida.  So I used bright, saturated tropical colors and a variety of rhythmic prints, including lots of batiks.  This is all from my stash, including lots of scraps.

I want all my quilts to be attractive, meaningful, and useful, so I'm not too fussy about a lot of the details and I'll cheat wherever I can.

HawkFan Thanks! They were also chosen with that in mind--and also to hide the occasional food stain. wink

I like your spin on this quilt block. I also enjoy tweaking the traditional to see what I can make of it, and my fabric stash is whatever caught my eye that day. I seldom buy with a project in mind (unless I've started one and realize I need more of something). I love the way this turned out. The colors are very striking!
