This is the "surprise, you didn't ask for it but I made it anyway" portion of my sister's Christmas present. (What she actually requested was "Star Wars swag," which will take the form of pillowcases.)
When we were kids, my mom made a similar Advent calendar/banner for us, in hideous late '70's goldenrod and magenta. I chose to take the color scheme down a notch to blue and grey, since blue is the liturgical color for Advent.
Unfortunately, I couldn't remember all the iconography for the pins, so I had to make some up -- hence the somewhat bizarro combination of non-Christmas Christian imagery (crosses), actual Christmas Christian imagery (fancy schmancy stars), and secular Christmas imagery (peppermint candies, anyone?) I think my favorites are the snow-covered pine tree and the little set of Communion ware, neither of which appeared in mom's original banner.
