I have always loved Berenstain Bears since reading the books to my
own kids when they were small. I saw this fabric collection a few years
ago and bought a charm pack, then bought cuts of about 10 different
fabrics in the collection with the intent of making a quilt for my
This weekend I did a marathon sewing stint and finished up a quilt for my grandson. He will be 3 next week. I had made the top last fall, and then set it away for a while.
Thursday I pieced the back with larger pieces from the fabric line I was using + stash pieces. The fabric with the “Tennessee” theme was purchased at a quilting shop in Franklin, TN, back in 2011. My grandson was born in Nashville, so it seemed right to use it for his quilt.
Then Friday I got it all sandwiched and pin basted and started machine quilting it that night. I just did a 3 stitch zigzag over all the seams, no fancy free motion.
Sunday, during the Seahawk Surprise I applied the binding. I had to piece the binding from about 6 different fabrics and it looks great! The binding is machine stitched on the front, and then the same 3 stitch zigzag to hold it in the back. No hand sewing for me, thank you very much!
SO cute! I love the Bernstein bears fabric!
