Description

This is for one of my goddaughters. She's at University of Wisconsin and wanted something with red, white a black. She liked the Carpenter's Star pattern. I bought some fabric for this last year, including some Wisconsin Badger fabric for the back, but just got around to working on it over the holidays.

My New Year's resolution is not to buy any fabric unless absolutely necessary (things like Kona White) so the challenge was putting a back together using just my stash. I don't have a lot of red fabric. Thank goodness for the Badger fabric! I used scraps left over from the front and a couple of different black fabrics I have a lot of. I also used a jelly roll of solid black that I had forgotten I had.

Aug 1, 2015 - finally got around to quilting this. Binding is sewn onto the front. I went with a scrappy binding - mostly reds with a little black thrown in. I have a 4-5 hour car ride ahead of me so I'll work on hand sewing the binding down and it will finally be ready to gift to her. So glad she's patient!

Aug 3 - not sure why I'm bothering to update this but it is finished so I can at least mark off another WiP. Binding is on, quilt is washed and dried and packaged up to mail to her tomorrow. The scrappy binding worked well with it and I'm happy with it.

What a great quilt...I am so impressed the back was all from your stash! She is going to love it.

Thank you True - that's a sad statement on how out of control my stash is.

Somehow I missed this! Wow, what a quilt for a U of Wisconsin student. She better lock it up when she's at class! I can't believe the backing on this. It must have taken forever to construct!

True Thanks Mary. She saw the sandwich last spring when she was visiting and she was very happy with it so I'm excited to finish it and send it off to her

Terryt1955 Thanks Terry. I am very happy with the back on this and it did take a while but I was determined to not buy any more fabric for it. Yeah, I know, making things harder for myself smile

What a great finish!

True Thanks Mary
