Description

Sonetimes it has to be simple. What is nice is when the simple comes together ...simply. This little baby quilt did just that. I needed this to be a quick make but still wanted it to be special so I used some of my very favorite fabrics - Bunny Hill and just did a charm square quilt. It has oyster Kona for the back which shows off the quilting. My newer machine that lets me get FMQ fancy is on the fritz but my ever faithful Elna came through and jet me do my standard wonky wavy quilting and it crinkled up really nicely this time. I've done this quilting approach at least a dozen times and I've decided that what makes it work the best is a really soft batting - I used Cream Rose- that almost seems lihe you could pull it apart- when I have used a firmer batting I just don't get the nice crinkly result after washing and drying. This will be gifted soon- gosh these baby quilts are so hard to give away but perhaps it's my subconscious wish to be a grandmother- ha ha - no sign of that for a loooong while Update- Feb. 13 - I had some leftover 5" squares so I made a floor pillow. It has an envelope back, and brown binding. I drew the bunnies ( broke in my new frixion pen - how did I live without this???) and did a combo of machine and hand quilting.

HawkFan

Love that crinkly look. I'll have to try that quilting "pattern" some time. Thanks for the tip about the batting

Readerowl

Ditto above. Lovely, cuddly baby quilt.

Mymble

HawkFan well I think your windmill quilt looks pretty close- definitely within the same crinkly range- but maybe it's a matter of degrees- the super soft batting sure helps though!

Mymble

Readerowl thanks Karen - yup - must wrap it up and gift it soon before I weaken

Such a pretty baby quilt and love the quilting...thanks for close up!!

Mymble

True thanks Mary - hope you are doing ok in the snow - heard another storm is on its way

True

Mymble yup about 12-15" more between now and Tuesday!

Mymble

True yes - that's about what Glenna said for Boston but I just heard it could go to 22" 

True

Mymble that had better not come here! It has been snowing all day..

HawkFan

Does Glenna have classes today? Savannah said Harvard canceled again today - second time this semester and only the 4th time in the history of the school

Mymble

No and there's talk of Tuesday off too- cancelled a concert tonight and she was to play The New World Symphony and they had to boot that ahead to March or something bc they missed so many rehearsals!!! She said they told them 18" or more - news said could go to 22"

Oh my that pillow is adorable...I love it. One the Frixion pin do some googling. There is a lot posted that the lines can come back in cold conditions. I love mine, and while I have not yet used it on front of fabric, have been tempted as keep thinking how often does a quilt or pillow get that cold. So my guess is all will be fine but just wanted you to be fully informed on what is out there:-)

Mymble

True thanks Mary - yes I heard about that- I gave them a super good press and no return so far- and we lost heat last night- pillow got very cold indeed❄️❄️❄️❄️ - So hopefully it ok- perhaps the fabric makes a difference? All things considered I guess it would be good to do a test on the fabric- stick it in the freezer after ironing and double check eh???❄️

True

Mymble good idea! I just so love mine it is almost worth the chance to me...I say that now;-). I could just stick it outside at this point as we would know!!

True

Oh and hope you have your heat back...that is not good at all

Mymble

True oh dear- yes - you have your own giant sno cone machine right out the door ⛄️❄️ - just put the sample on the snow snd you'll have your results pronto!!!

Mymble

True yes - thanks- - Mr. revised Oil showed up at 2:00 am and got us back up and running - they are great- I just stayed up seeing since trying to get to sleep in the cold was pointless❄️

HawkFan

I had the white lines show up a couple of times when I drew very heavily on fabric and it came out with a damp cloth. So far I haven't noticed it come back.

Mymble

HawkFan they make a white frixion? What planet have I been on????

HawkFan

No I meant the lines that Mary was talking about. The articles I've seen about them say the lines that show up later are white and that has been my experience but I've been able to get rid of them easily. Sorry I wasn't very clear. I wish they made white ones!!
