Description

I have bitten off more than I can chew with this quilt choice.  I got all the materials in the mail, including the pattern (book) and felt a bit overwhelmed.  I guess I will have to cross my fingers and pray!

Got my first and second block done of the quilt-phew.  It came together easily and was really fun to make.  Can't wait to make the rest!

Finished up the Constellation block.  I love the yellow and the purple.
Finished up the Intergalactic block.  It was a fun block to make :)

I loved this Celestial block (Emerald Green).  I need to finish up the pink one.

I struggled with this Ultraviolet block a bit (purple).  I hate unpicking!!

Good luck! It sure is a gorgoeus quilt...so love seeing them online but know I would have issues making it.

Mymble

They are doing this month by month at a quilt shop near me- it's a great quilt - but I understand the feeling - this is definitely a take your time and try to enjoy the process project! 

Love the rainbow look! Is it made out of layer cakes??? The Super Sidekick looks like it could be useful!

Vwgirl

Aizome I did buy the Super Sidekick and Hex and more rulers. I am a bit intimidated-trying to figure how where to start scream

The kit came with 3 Kona layer cakes to use for the piecing.

Mymble Very true!! I am making this for my husband and hope it turns out well :)

Mymble

Vwgirl Sorry this isn't all that helpful but...I seem to remember someone online had a sew along for this- maybe if you google it ;)- I think its over but you should be able to read the archived posts and perhaps they would have some tips and such- if I come across it, remember where I saw it etc...I'll post again :)

Vwgirl

Mymble I found this link (after looking on pinterest) to the first block.....http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/search/label/Gravity
Yay!!!
Great idea-to look online

HawkFan

That website looks very helpful. Looking forward to seeing you progress on this.

Mymble

Vwgirl Yay! So glad you found it! I'm not saying anything new but it sure is amazing to me how different sewing and quilting is because of the Internet! If it had been this way 25 years ago when I was making quilts for my kids I would have had much better quilts!

Vwgirl

HawkFan Thanks. I am still pretty nervous to cut into the fabric, but I'm just going to have to overcome my fear of messing up :)

Florence

Great beginning !
I bought the fabrics for this one . But I havn't yet begun ...
Do you envisage to make it quickly or to make only one or two block by month ?

Vwgirl

Florence Thanks for your comments. I am hoping to finish up fairly quickly. This quilt is for my husband and his birthday is coming up in June, so to finish, I am going to have to hustle.

Ibtreerock

Looks awesome! Great progress!

HawkFan

You're making great progress on this. Looks great!

Vwgirl

HawkFan Thanks. I am trying to have it done by June 20th.....cross your fingers. This is a birthday present for my husband :)

Vwgirl

Florence Thanks! I think he is pretty cute-his name is Archimedes. He loves quilting with me.

Quilterinmotion

You are very brave to give this quilt a shot. I admire your determination; you go, Girl. I agree with you about what changes there have been since I was quilting when I kids were young! Your blocks are gorgeous!

Vwgirl

Quilterinmotion I think I border between brave and crazy! I still remember opening the pattern (which is actually a 45 page book). I wanted to cry and actually packed all the materials up and put them back in their wrapping. It wasn't until I found this- http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/
It breaks the blocks down and gives you confidence. So grateful that the author and pattern maker is doing this.
