Description

Making this mini for my daughter. No particular reason I chose a llama. It's just something I thought she'd like. It was fun picking out the fabrics for this one. The original pattern shows a yellow background and I auditioned several colors but came back to yellow too - I just liked the look of it the best. The pattern is by Sew What Sherlock It looks a bit intimidating with all the tiny pieces but it went together surprisingly well. It did take a while to cut the fabric and there are lots of oddly shaped pieces that challenged my engineers brain to cut the right way. I only had a couple of pieces that were too small that I had to re-cut so maybe that's why I thought it came together well. There also aren't really a lot of seams you have to match which makes the final steps easier. The pattern has you piece the mouth out of all of the same fabric so you get the impression of a mouth. I chose not to do that but I still like the way it looks. I have some great llama fabric for the back.

Not sure how to quilt it yet - either vertical lines every half inch or so or FMQ.

April 30, 2015 - I just realized I hadn't updated this. Finished it up a couple of weeks ago and my daughter will be opening it tomorrow morning. I'm always excited to hear from her when she opens the minis. I went with FMQ. It kind of looks like a kindergartener did it but I suppose that's only fair. I have lots of her kindergarten work so now she can have some of mine

It reminds me of a book we used to read when she was little called "Is Your Mama a Llama?" so I signed the back "from Mama Llama". Backing fabric is from Laurie Wisbrun who has a shop ScarletFig on Etsy. She's got some great new fabrics coming out

HawkFan we may be sisters from different mothers. I knitted a pink llama for my daughter years ago and felted it into a computer bag which she still carries to this day. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/80009330857345846/
