Description

I started this quilt last fall and just finished it.  It's about 4' x 5'.    I used a meandering stitch with the walking foot, to quilt it on the diagnonal.  My biggest issue with this piece is that all the cat hair shows so clearly!  But I am really pleased with the finished quilt.  I guess I would characterize it as "semi-improv" since it is based on a traditional block, and the blocks are squared up (though not all the same size).  This was a lot of fun to do, and I will be doing more improv with a nice little stash of striped fabrics I have collected.

Wow ! It is gorgeous ! The very different square at left give to this quilt an original touch very interesting !

I love it! The wonky blocks are great, and their ring leader at the top makes me smile!

Wow! I love the fabric you chose. It almost looks fluorescent and you're looking at it with a black light. smiley_cat

Thanks, all. bebejohnson I shop in a fabric thrift (donation) store in my town, and I never know what I'm going to find, but I always look in the "Stripes" bin, and I always come away with a few pieces.

Sometimes it is called "modern traditional" when you start with a traditional pattern. I really like improv within boundaries. In a design class on Craftsy, Weeks Ringle said something like this: chaos is okay if it is contained. Seems like what you are doing. Love the colors.

Clairealex yes, exactly, improv within boundaries. I have been trying out various spins on traditional blocks, but without a ruler. Improv is about the process. It's a lot of fun, and there are happy accidents. BTW I took that Weeks Ringle class, and thought it was very interesting. I liked the simplicity of her style...but I am more inclined to chaotic in my own, I guess!

I like it all, but I don't do it all. LOL.
