Description

Just got these and enjoying looking at them!  Terrain by Kate Spain.  Think will be using with white to do a disappearing nine patch based on a pattern of Faith's from Fresh Lemons Quilts (see tutorial).  I will be going for a more scrappy look then hers but thought this fabric would play off white really well.  We  shall see...for now I am just starring at it;-)

Update 10-6-12 Finally...this is just one block sewn and cut into quarters and I think once I get them all done will arrange randomly before rejoin but was making sure this is what I wanted before moved ahead.

Update 4-17-14 This quilt as waited far too long to be finished!  So I pulled it out today and finished blocks and have it on design wall to determine block placement. Goal is to get top done in next week or so. I forgot how much I LOVE this fabric.

Update 4-26-14  Top is done...now have three tops in need of quilting :-(

Update 8-8-14  Quilt is done.  I did organic lines/match stick quilting which I had never done before...wow talk about using thread and time consuming.  But I do like it now done.  I think this quilt was about teaching me some things and one of my decisions is I am going to figure out how to spray baste larger quilts using a table!

Chrissybugs

Love these fabrics. Will be watching for the finished quilt!

True

Thanks Quilt455 and Chrissybugs I am anxious to get into this fabric but have to wrap up some others first...so making myself wait! It is so hard...

Sewnsew

That is lovely fabric and will look fabulous as a scrappy quilt.

True

Cowgirl4ever

I love it its going to be a beautiful quilt

True

Cowgirl4ever thank you took me forever to start it I must say!

Terryt1955

I don't remember you posting this 2 months ago but I LOVE the fabric and I think the D9P won't let you down. This quilt reminds me of the colorway in your Elephant In The Room quilt. I just love seeing this purple showing up in the lines of fabric. Makes my heart sing! This is going to be gorgeous so get on it! Hey how did the auction go for your Star masterpiece?

True

Terryt1955 Thank you...I love Kate Spain fabric! The auction is this Thursday evening so stay tuned;-)

Terryt1955

I'm going to see if Terrain is still available. It's between either Terrain or Good Fortune~ both of which I love. And I'll be thinking of you Thursday. Good Luck!!

True

Terryt1955 Thank you!! I love Good Fortune as well... And the Fabric Shack and several others have Terrain check out here http://quiltshops.com/

And you are so right about colors and my other quilt...did not even think about it since arrived at them at different times and different ways. Interestingly colors and patterns are just diffferent enough so don't "go" but same colors!

Mymble

So pretty- this is going to be wonderful- such gorgeous prints and the design is fresh and modern!

Conniharns

This quilt will be beautiful!! I love the colors and Kate Spain! I think I need to shop! Can't wait to see how you progress on this beauty! :)

True

Conniharns and Mymble thank you!!

AllPatchedUp

Such bright and cheery fabrics. Love them paired with the white. :) Looks great so far True !

Aizome

Swooning at your fabrics & blocks!!!❤

True

Allpatchedup And Aizome thank you! I was making this one for me but someone at work saw pics and was in love so we shall see...I owe her a thank you for the work she has done on our charity auction so maybe this will be it:-)

Thesewingchick

I love the arrangement you have chosen. The white really helps the gorgeous prints shine. It's going to be a beautiful quilt :)

Caribousmom

SO glad to see you working on this one, Mary! It is going to be so, so pretty!!

True

Thesewingchick and Caribousmom thank you...so love this fabric and it calls for white to be in it!

Chandra

This looks like a ton of fun to arrange...and rearrange.

True

Chandra Have a feeling once get more blocks done I will be doing the rearranging for awhile!

Damnskippy

I've become obsessed with white and modern looking quilts. This is just up my alley and I love, love the fabric line. I think this will be beautiful when you're done.

True

Damnskippy Thank you so much! I have to get back to working on this one as I love it as well!

Strandkorbtraum

why haven't I seen this before .. I like the 9 patch it shows off the fabrics how they look in big and small units. And if you know that before you can choose certain farbics to show off int he large square and use something else in the others ... so you can have a pattern but still basically just sho off some charms you really love...

Stamdl

So pretty! I just bought jelly rolls of Serenade and Cuzco on Black Friday sales, I'm loving Kate Spain.

True

Stamdl Thank you I love her and love both the collections you bought but do not have any:-(

Terryt1955

Thank you! I am the first to admit I'm spatially dyslexic (if there is such a recognized thing) and I have been trying to figure out how to do a quilt on Pinterest that said it was a 9 patch. For the life of me I couldn't figure out where to put the white squares and you just solved it with all your great pictures!!!! Seriously you just saved me hours!

Terryt1955

One more favor dear friend. Can you make this possible to Pin? I have to save this on several of my boards!

True

Terryt1955 Done:-). Sorry didn't realize it wasn't checked off...

True

Terryt1955 Glad it helped... I read it somewhere so I think in comments on Fresh Lemon Quilts where I got idea from (under tutorial). She did not do it as a D9P, as she wanted hers more planned, but I think someone said how to do it this way...and since I wanted the white but more scrappy I went with it. Got to get back to this one!!

Terryt1955

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aprilc

This is so pretty! Love what you've got going so far!

Pave

Beautiful!

True

Aprilc and Pave thank you...

Nexxus831

I love the fabrics in this especially with the white background

True

Nexxus831 thank you

Terryt1955

I'm so glad to revisit this! I just got a layer cake of Simply Style and can so see it made up in this pattern. You know what I just realized? This sure looks a lot like Danish Delights! And I bet it goes together a whole lot faster!

True

Terryt1955 OMG you are right it does and is! This one is on my I must finish list...hopefully this fall. And Simply Style would be awesome in this pattern!

Terryt1955

I hope you do finish it because I just love these colors!

Terryt1955

Yay, you're breaking it out again! I just love this line by Kate Spain. In fact I love ALL her lines because she always has a touch of purple! Hope you reach your goal next week....

True

Terryt1955 I love her fabric but this is only line I have purchased. I still have three more days off so fingers crossed. BUT then I would have three tops in need of quilting...oh my!

HawkFan

You worked on this before I joined so this is the first time I've seen it - the fabrics look beautiful against the white and I like your arrangement

Terryt1955

True It's okay to have 3 tops at one time. Go for it! There's no judgement going on here that's for sure (she says as she's looking at her stack of tops waiting to be sandwiched and quilted)....

True

HawkFan thank you...I loved it and have no clue why did not get back to it. Now have someone in mind to give it to so that might keep me motivated!!

True

Terryt1955 LOL I just hate the pressure of a pile up;-). But I want this one done so figure getting top there is one way to get it all the way done!

Terryt1955

I forgot to ask if you used charm packs or yardage? How much did it require to do this quilt and what size did it end up being?

Terryt1955

Okay I just saw the picture with the 2 charm packs so that answers that. Are you going to put 2 borders on this? Hurry up I'm dying to Pin it!

True

Terryt1955 yes I did it with all charm packs including the white...this is the one I mentioned when you were talking about the jelly rolls not being cut right. The white charms were not cut at 5"' thank God they were too big, but I had to recut them. I plan, at moment, to do two borders and have all the details written down I will find them and email them to you. I think it will be in range of 65-69" if I do borders. I want to see how look without them before decide. Was just thinking this morning this would also look awesome with all the middle block (that end up being small squares) in the same color/fabric.

Terryt1955

I'm so glad you took the picture of the 9 patch before cutting so I could visualize what you were describing! Otherwise I would have had to break out my colored pencils! And yes doing the center square all in same fabric would give it a very different look (controlled scrappy) especially if it was a really bold color. I guess that should have read "saturated". I can SO see it! That;s a decent sized lap quilt with just 2 charm packs!

True

Terryt1955 you need 80 print charms and 64 white ones to make 16 nine patch blocks. If I add two borders it will be 64" square... So with out much smaller like 52"...

Mymble

So great to see this in production again...such a pretty line and the design really shows it off!

True

Mymble thank you now to get it done!!

Caribousmom

Glad to see this one back on your design wall, Mary! Can't wait to see it finished!

Readerowl

Fun to see the top is done. It is wonderful

True

Readerowl thank you...now to get motivated for next step.

Caribousmom

Its great Mary!!!

HawkFan

It looks great all put together!

True

Caribousmom thank you sure do love the fabric!

True

HawkFan thank you...this poor quilt has waited way too long to become a quilt;-)

Terryt1955

My layer cake came in to make this pattern! I'm hoping to start it very soon!!!

True

Terryt1955 if you stick with it it is a quick one...that is why it took me a year and a half to get this far;-)

Terryt1955

LOL! But yes dear, in between you have cranked out a lot of other quilts so something had to be put on the back burner!

Caribousmom

Wow! Stunning, gorgeous, saturated, beautifully quilted, amazing...I'm running out of adjectives. Did I say "love it!?!?" Well I do! Fantastic, Mary!

True

Caribousmom thank you...not perfect but it will pass:-) and I do love the quilting now I am not doing it any more;-)

Quilterinmotion

Congratulations on a Finish, True . Isn't that sense of accomplishment wonderful? The quilt is fantastic and I love your straight-line, matchstick quilting. It really is just right for this quilt. Love the colors too.

True

Quilterinmotion thank you...I love finishes!! But also always feel a bit lost even though have a zillion other projects waiting!

HawkFan

Gorgeous finish. I love the matchstick quilting!

True

HawkFan thank you... I might of complained just a bid during the process;-)

HawkFan

That's a lot of quilting to do. I wouldn't blame you a bit for complaining smile

Florence

True

Florence thank you so much!!

Terryt1955

OMG I didn't realize you were doing the match stick quilting on this one! It looks so coo even if it was a pin in the butt. You already know how I love this quilt top but now even more so!

True

Terryt1955 Quilt455 thank you both so much...I so appreciate the kind words and support for something new for me!

Conniharns

True Oh my, True!! This came out so pretty. I love your quilting on it. These fabrics are just so beautiful...love..love..

True

Conniharns thank you so much...I so agree about the fabric!!

Drnic2c

True me too. I hear the song 'Happy' by Farrell when I see it. The colors are bright and cheerful.

True

Drnic2c thank you and that is the perfect song for this fabric!!!
