Embroidery & Embellishments
This is an experiment I tried tonight. I've had the embroidery file for a while and decided to use it to make something for my sil who is turning 60 soon.
I used a 12.5 square of cotton with shape-flex and fusible fleece ironed on the back. Then I used a light cut away stablizer in my hoop, and spray adhesive to to position the fabric.
First I embroidered the center message. I got it on Urbanthreads.com.
Then I removed the hoop and using the sewing function of my machine, did a border of a decorative scrolly stitch in a square around the words. Finally, for the outside few inches, I attached a free-motion foot, dropped the feed dogs and tried my hand at free-hand stippling! I think I did it a couple of times decades ago on some handbags I made, but I've never done with this foot.
It was so much easier than I thought it would be! I'm quite pleased with the results.
This picture is not the best. The threads used are very tone-on-tone and show up much better IRL. I think I will try to photograph it in natural light tomorrow to see if I can get a better image.
I got it finished on May 14th with a concealed zipper under the flap on the back side.
