Description

My friend, Mary Ryder, made this pretty, simple quilt top for Quilts of Valor and asked me to quilt it.  I went searching on the web for patriotic quilt motifs and found a few that I liked.  I did a shooting star on the outside border, a star and stripe combo on the white inside border and an eagle carrying a flag  with meandering stars in the big blocks.  I learned some things on the borders on this quilt.  Like basting down the sides in a back and forth pattern helps keep the borders from getting wavy and stretching.  Then when I take it off and rotate it 90 degrees on the long arm the borders lay much flatter.  I also figured out a couple of adjustments to make when doing a long border to keep the design where it should be.  The only disappointment is that the red thread choice makes the design in the blocks hard to see.  If I had it to do over I think I would use white thread in the middle part of the quilt.

HawkFan Ibtreerock thanks for the compliments. As I do more long arm quilting, I find it a more and more creative outlet.
