Description

The final mini for my daughter - I've done one a month for a year and this is August's version. I've seen this pattern all over Instagram - it's called Take Wing (I did the Take Wing mini version). My daughter is doing research in atmospheric chemistry this summer and the Butterfly Effect is a term often used in atmospheric science so this seemed like a perfect fit. I chose yellow mostly because it's the color I had the most scraps of that would work in this pattern. The background is a batik that has a subtle butterfly pattern. I had a fun FQ of some dragonfly fabric that I used for the back.

I quilted around the outside of the butterfly to give the effect of the wings flapping - the butterfly effect - and zig-zagged inside the wings to mimic the triangles in the wings

As far as paper piecing goes, this pattern isn't difficult as long as you're comfortable with cutting out pieces to fit triangular pieces. I have quite a few teal scraps also so there may be another butterfly in my future.

Another awesome mini filled with symbolism... I have a great card framed that is of a butterfly. It was given during a time of great change in my life and had the quote about without great change their would be no butterfly. As your daughter continues to move into adulthood this seems the perfect mini to reflect those changes. I so want to make this kind as have loved everyone I have seen.

True Thanks Mary. It is a perfect symbol for college and the transitions you go through then. It is a very reasonable pattern

I liked the thumbnail on Projects page but up closer it's even better. The piecing makes it so pretty and interesting. And your quilting creates a sense of motion.

Joanne-q thank you. That's the effect I was going for so it's great to get confirmation smile
