Description

I saw a wonderful post by Hen on her blog henhouse homemade (  http://henhousehomemade.blogspot.co.uk/ ) and she has made some wonderful cushions to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.  My daughter has an extensive collection of hankerchiefs with an English theme- many of them coronation or Jubilee hankies. So, inspired by Hen, I made my own Jubilee cushion with one the hankies. It is rayon, from 1953, and the cushion fabrics are two Keepsake Calicoes from my stash and the back is Rose Parade by Moda. I made a pillow insert and then just slipstitched the opening closed. I think my daughter will enjoy it- she has so many hankies and they are just sitting in a shoe box so it was nice to find a project to use one- and no hankies were harmed in the making of this pillow;)  (I never cut vintage hankies unless they are falling apart!)

What a nice keepsake for your daughter to have, a pillow cover her mom made for the Diamond Jubilee! My mom used to talk of how she tried to get my older sister to watch the coronation of the Queen on TV when she was just 2. Hoping to see some shows this weekend of that special event.

Thanks, yes hope she loves it!. We all love to get up early for the royal weddings, I have visited twice, and my daughter lived there for a year and a half- she'd go back in a heartbeat. I think you're right- should be some televised events on BBC:) -we get 2 BBC channels so maybe I'll catch some as this weekend is the Central celebratory weekend.
