Description

This is a baby quilt I made for the new baby of a friend's daughter and the baby's name is Rita-so she is of course "Lovely Rita" ( with no idea if becoming a meter maid is in her future-her parents most likely hope for bigger things:)  I used Riley Blake's  Doodlebug Designs Tuxedo Collection. I took the idea for the layout from the "Wonky Nine Patch Quilt" in the Moda book, Fresh Fabric Treats. However, once I had my layer cake cut wonky style, it had it's own ideas and the design just led me in another direction- what can I say- I was at it's mercy. I added some black minky- babies love texture- and the back is purple flannel. The nursery colors are black, white purple and pear green so I tried to complement what is already there- and decided to leave out any references to the pear green since that seemed difficult to match properly.

The texture in this quilt is great! Don't you love when a pattern and fabric inspire you to create something unique!??!

Thanks Gail and Wendy it's funny- I wouldn't have thought of this myself but her mom showed me a photo of her nursery and I saw which way I had to go and then when I found the fabric- it just had a life of its own-again- not something I would have predicted for black and white fabric- I'm learning:)

This is a great quilt...I keep seeing black and white used in such wonderful ways makes me think about it in a whole new way.
