Description

This is for a flickr swap I'm participating in. I have been wanting to make these blocks for some time now and it seemed like this would be something my partner liked. Hopefully she does!

I plan to use mostly bright solids, with a little bit of pattern thrown in. But want to use just a little since I think this would look really nice hand quilted. I'm planning on using 4 different NYB blocks based on these tutorials:

Block 0 - http://gogokim.blogspot.com/2012/03/welcome-to-new-york-beauty-block-quilt.html
Block 4 - http://www.sewsweetness.com/2012/04/new-york-beauty-quilt-along-week-8.html
Block 2 - http://www.sewsweetness.com/2012/04/new-york-beauty-quilt-along-week-9.html
Block 7 - http://www.incolororder.com/2012/04/new-york-beauty-quilt-along-block-7.html

7/14 - I finished Blocks 0, 2 and 4. After the first block, I realized that I really liked the simplicity of the color scheme. With all the business of the blocks and the hand quilting I'm hoping to add, I thought it best to keep it simple, yet bold, in the color. I have 7 cut and ready to sew, just gotta work up the patience. Some of my points aren't perfect and my curves aren't super seamless, but I think it's looking good. If my partner doesn't want it, she can happily send it back haha! Blogged.

Well, I hope you have better luck with these than I did. I did three of them, they are now in a drawer. I will, at some point, go back to them and do something with them. But what sunk me was the curves. I am looking forward to watching your progress! Love you color scheme :)

True , I am loving how it's coming together so far, I ended up editing down the color scheme, since the blocks are already so striking. I hope my partner likes it!

Caribousmom , my circles and points are definitely not perfect, but it's my second time paper piecing and my first time doing curves, so I'm feeling ok with how they are turning out. I think being so new to sewing is helping me, as I don't hear about all the scary bits of the things I'm trying until after I've given them a shot. So, I just jump right in and give it a shot. Not that I haven't spent time with my seam ripper, but at least I try! :)

Are you sure you have't been doing this all your life!?? Those points and curves are impressive IMHO

Caribousmom

Good for you being brave :) Your blocks look great! Much better than mine LOL!

These are awesome, Jess. I agree about the color scheme - it's really lovely.

Wow this is gorgeous...those colors to die for...

Caribousmom

Wonderful job, Jess! I love those colors together!

Gail

WOW!!! Circles and triangles... oh my ~ you might be my new hero! Great color palate too...

I really like how the edges of the quarters don't line up with each other, creating a pleasantly disjointed look. The one print mixed in with the solids works really well to tie everything together. Great work on this one!
