Nine Patch Snowballs by Jennifleur

August 2011: This was a quilt I designed for a beginning quilting class I was teaching.  I'm sure I'm not the first to put these two blocks together like this but for all intents and purposes I haven't really seen any quilts like this... so there ya go.  All the fabric came out of my scrap bin.

October 2011: I'd put the top together to serve as an example for the class while also working on a separate color way with the students to give them step by step examples.

February 2012: My pregnancy and newborn forced me to cancel the last part of the class so now I've got a few tops to wrap up.  The green one will be for my son and the mermaid one is for my daughter.  She picked out the fabric so of course she'll love it.

July 2012: Need to finish assembling the mermaid top and then baste and quilt both of them.  The green one uses up scraps from my

November 8, 2012: FINALLY started piecing the back for the green version of this quilt today.  I was hoping I wouldn't have to piece it but somehow I screwed up the calculations and didn't get quite enough fabric.  So... pieced it is.  It's okay, it'll make it more interesting in the long run, even if it does take a wee bit longer to put together.

November 9, 2012: Finished piecing the back today and pinned the layers together.  Basting is my least favorite part but at least I have This American Life to listen to.

November 11, 2012: Quilting!

November 14, 2012: DONE!

July 2013: When I started this venture my daughter had chosen some mermaid fabric and wanted me to make her a quilt too.  So I finally got around to finishing the top for her this month.  Of course I still need to quilt it.  Hopefully it won't take another two years.  Not that we haven't been busy in the past two years with having a baby and moving, so I'm cutting myself some slack.

This is a great design. There are so many ways to make it, a class would be fun for sure. 2-block quilts are so nice for the versatility in color placement. I really like both of them.

I love the green colorway, so soothing!

Rooting for you and can hardly wait to see the finished project.

It is a very pretty quilt. Love the greens.

I have always loved this pattern! And 9 patches are my favorite blocks!

Love the addition of the fabulous border fabric.Really makes it pop! This quilt is lovely.

Okay what is This American Life? Is it an audio book?

Terryt1955 , It's my favorite podcast. I often miss it when it's on NPR so I catch it on the internet when the time suits me. I love all the stories of real people living real lives. Who needs fiction?!

"This American Life is a weekly public radio show broadcast on more than 500 stations to about 1.8 million listeners. It is produced by Chicago Public Media, distributed by Public Radio International, and has won all of the major broadcasting awards. It is also often the most popular podcast in the country, with around 700,000 people downloading each week. From 2006-2008, we produced a television version of This American Life on the Showtime network, which won three Emmys. We're also the co-producers, with NPR News, of the economics podcast and blog Planet Money. And a half dozen stories from the radio show are being developed into films.
The radio show and TV show follow the same format. There's a theme to each episode, and a variety of stories on that theme. It's mostly true stories of everyday people, though not always. There's lots more to the show, but it's sort of hard to describe. Probably the best way to understand the show is to start at our favorites page, though we do have longer guides to our radio show and our TV show. If you want to dive into the hundreds of episodes we've done over the years, there's an archive of all our old radio shows and listings for all our TV episodes, too."

It sounds like an interesting show. Your quilt top is looking lovely.

Oh my goodness I just love this quilt...that border is amazing!! I had just had a couple of friends tell me I need to start listening to this show this week!
