Oh I am so envious! I pinned this way back when when they were featuring it on their blog. Just love it!!! You did a great job of combining the 3 colorways. I'd expect nothing less from you!
Guess what?? I love it...I love this fabric but could not see what to do with it and I love seeing it in this quilt! And you know the hot weather really is not helping any of us stick to our quilting plans is all I have to say;-)
Terryt1955 thank you! I knew when I saw this pattern I had to make it (and it is really easy!!). It is hard to see the fabrics in these shots...looks much better in person :)
True smiling I just cannot think about draping a quilt with wool batting over me when the temperature is near 100 degrees. Ugh.
Well, looks like you got to do some quilting this weekend. Love it. I am getting so many ideas from you that I do not know what I want to do next. Those colors really pop on the white. I know that I am using white in one of my next projects. You really do beautiful piecing. Can't wait to see the finished project.,
Very pretty. That's a lovely block. Simple and geometric, but very effective.
Holy Moly! Looks great...and now we are all waiting with you...not sure it makes the wait easier but...;-)
Thanks True ! I have no idea when exactly in August the yardage will be n stores, but I'm itching to buy it :)
I keep looking at this quilt...I would never had thought I would love a quilt in these colors as much as I love this one! I keep realizing how how one uses the fabric (pattern, lay out, etc.) so changes how one reacts to the colors/fabrics. Not sure that makes sense but...
It makes perfect sense True ... I have had the same reaction to other people's quilts - just so so on the fabric until I see how they used it...and then it seems to come to life. I would not have thought that red, gray and black would do much in a quilt...but I do think this pattern (and all that white background) makes it work!
Once again love it. The white makes the gray, red and black really pop. I love this pattern you used. Can't wait to see the finish quilt. You are so brave!!!!!!
Why do I have the feeling this line is going to be as popular as Fleas Market Fancy? Totally difernt colors but they work in almost any setting. Love it!!
I think it will be popular too Terryt1955 - but I pretty much love all the Sweetwater collections :)
I like the color combination you used on this quilt.
I have wanted this collection since I saw it posted back before Quilt Market. I love Sweetwater! Wendy you did a great job on this, I can't wait to see it finished!
I love this line too Gadget19ks ... in fact, both new Sweetwater collections (Lucy's Crab Shack and this one) went on my wish list immediately after I got a look at them! LOL! I am eagerly waiting for yardage to get this quilt done tapping foot impatiently! Thanks for your nice comment :)
This quilt has such a great vintage meets modern feel-love the combination of the two colorways- beautiful job -can't wait to see it all done!
Thank you Mymble ! I think that is one of the things I love about Sweetwater - definitely modern, but has that vintagey feel too :)
I like the way this has come together. The pattern is really great...makes me want to try it.
Janquilter thank you! The pattern is really easy - I could see this one in just about any fabric ... but I bet it would look amazing in 1930s reproduction prints too.
You are right, Wendy, and I have a drawer full of Thirties...dang...now I have to put that quilt on my list. LOL...this place is too inspiring!
Is the white square in the center of the block 3 inches finished?
Love it Janquilter !!! I agree - so much inspiration to be found on this site (my "to make" list is growing daily!)
Thanks...guess I had better buy some white today.... :-)
Missed this one the first time around, but it's beautiful Caribousmom !! I like your version with the combined colorways better than the versions that only used one! Just awesome. :)
Am I suppose to just believe you did all this work today????!!! where are the pictures;-). Great progress!
Caribousmom LOL but I want to see the three borders...I so agree about liking how you used all the color ways much better than just one. I have a layer cake of this collection and some yardage...it is on the to do list but keep changing mind on what pattern:-)
OMG is that the back!!!! I love it love it...using the fabric with the words is perfect and love blocks! I am much happier now...maybe I can now successfully finish my Elephant in the Room top as I was taking a break as I seemed to have forgotten how to match seams and deciding dinner might help!
Deciding should be decided...
True Okay - so you pressured me into posting photos... the first one is a sneak peek of the front which shows the three borders; the second one is the front with the black stripe binding laid across it...and the last is a sneak peak of the back! LOL
Even the back is amazing!
Caribousmom Love the borders...what an amazing quilt this is...well of course you made it!! Are you keeping this one? And I am now one content Mainer;-)
True Yup, I'm keeping this one because I think it will fit on the bed in the guest room :) Glad to see you content!
Nice job! Love sweetwater! I love all your quilts. But, I'm not seeing your pics of the back???
This is a really striking quilt. Love the colour combination.
I LOVE what you chose for the 3 borders. Perfection. I love the backing even more. Exquisite. I LOVE this quilt. Ahhhh.
Just love this one. I would never have thought to put 3 borders on it. I can not wait to see this one done. You go girl.
I am so glad you are back and quilting. More ideas for me to steal. heheheh Hugs my friend
I just love the way you have used this great fabric range. The simplicity of the block really lets the fabric steal the show. I used this fabric range to make a bag and think the fabric is quite special. You quilt is lovely. Karen
Sewwellmaide Thank you so much! I agree about this fabric - it is so beautiful (I don't think photos really do it justice). This is such a simply pattern...really fun to sew. Quilt455 smiling thank you, girlfriend! Terryt1955 Thanks! I wasn't sure how they were going to play together, but I'm happy with how it turned out! Sewnsew Thanks so much! For some reason those colors make me think of Christmas - it must be all that red!
Exactly my thought regarding this quilt reminding me of Christmas YET it doesn't have to be put away after the holidays. I have made a new folder in pinterest entitled " Quilts I have to Make" and this was the first pin.
Terryt1955 LOL - thanks, my friend! By the way, I hadn't seen your post about the loss of your dog until the other day...I am so very, very sorry to hear about it. They are wonderful, those loyal fur children. hugs
This is so cool. I love their fabrics and your quilt is perfect for showcasing it!
I am so excited. I just bought a layer cake and a jelly roll in this line.I'm trying to decide what to get the yardage in. I love it all. I don't think one could ever grow tired of it and the colors are timeless so I think I should get it all. I wish!
It's more or less all been said before - but it's really a lovely pattern and I really like the picture of the top with the sun shining through from behind ...
Love the back! This is getting even more wonderful ...if that's possible- looking forward to the finished pics:)
Ok...not a FMQ expert but if it helps- as I look at your quilt overall I see two dominant patterns- circles and wavy lines- so perhaps your FMQ-ing could pick up on one or the other?- just a thought:)
I think you might be on the right track with the diagonals. This is my thoughts, you have a lot of curves and swirls going on that straight lines may play off of them. Just a thought. Or you could quilt the setting blocks with one design and the pieced blocks with another. Not being much help here. Sorry my friend.
Quilt455 I was thinking similarly...that I could do something different in the negative space than in the blocks....
I love cross hatching quilting and on the diagonal for this one, which I love btw. I would use the hst diagonal line for the first line and figure out from there what to do. I would use white thread. Another idea would be the clambake quilting? Or you could totally use the white space to trace the 'alternate' block created by the white space. There is a star pattern there if you could stitch around the outside of the white hst around the snowball block, you create a big block of white that can have a pattern in it. Just some thoughts print out a paper picture of it and do some sketching of patterns on an overlay. As you can see I'm not much help but love throwing in my 2 cents!! Regardless, the quilt is going to be incredible.
you are welcome...
I have been waiting to see this quilted. Yup, you picked a great way to quilt it. Love, love, love it. Yes, makes me want to practice FMQ! So pretty. And you might just have to use it this weekend since it is going to be cold and snowy or rainy.
Quilt455 Thanks for the encouragement! I am aiming to get this one completed before my mom arrives on Dec. 18th...so I'm going to have to hustle a bit! I want to put it on her bed because it says "Christmas" to me!
Perfect quilting! Looks so lovely!
Laweigel Thank you! And it is not all that hard to do (I am still such a beginner when it comes to FMQ that I stress every time I try something new to me!)
I think of christmas too. I know you will get it done on time. Can't wait until Saturday. Have to been home by 11 but can do the ist shop and maybe two.
Quilt455 Oh good! I thought you weren't coming (Conni said you couldn't make it)...I'm so glad you can do it! I would have got you your passport if I thought you were going to go....
I do not know if I will have time for all three but at least a couple of them. We have never been shopping together!
Love you quilting on this one...will be wonderful when done.
The quilting looks super!
Oh your poor thumb!! I always finding it interesting the parts of my body that ache or hurt that I do not even realize I am causing stress quilting! Hope it is better quickly:-)
True thank you - it is really hurting tonight - but I spent about 3.5 hours uninterrupted quilting and so I think I overdid it a little. Time for a relaxing glass of wine in front of the fire :)
Sorry about your thumb! You really do need to let it rest for a couple of days or you are going to be in a brace. I know you are on a deadline but if you really injure that thumb, then you are in for much bigger problems. HEHEHEHE here I am lecturing my physical therapist friend. Take care of yourself.
Caribousmom It will get better! quilting is such a physically demanding process - from sore thumbs, to neck aches, back aches, and very tired arms - who needs the gym right? ;)
Good excuse to go for a massage, I say! Love it!
April LOL - I woke up this morning and my right elbow was sore, my neck was aching and that thumb - oh brother! I like the idea of a massage...think I might try to manipulate my hubby into giving me one :)
Well Done! I love hand sewing binding. Your quilt is so awesome!
Don't know how I missed all the progress you are making on my favorite quilt. This is going to be so neat on your guest bed. What a welcoming hug for your mom and it will surely lift her spirits. Now all it needs is a new lab puppy on it to greet her!
Terryt1955 lol - no new puppies here! Raven is about all I can manage right now :) Thanks for the nice encouragement, Terry!
Wow!! Love that binding...how is the thumb, elbow and neck?
True thank you! I am self-medicating with a glass of wine :) Actually, my thumb is the worst...I probably need to take a few days off of sewing.
Yup you do but nope you won't. hehehe I love how you pieced the back. Can't wait to see it all finished in person so i can touch and feel. Mom is going to love it on the bed when she comes for her visit. Beautiful
This is just gorgeous! Congrats on finishing your UFO.
Love all the pictures...this is just gorgeous and love the quilting and the binding and the label and the back...ok every inch of it!!!
True - thank you, you are too kind!!! I'm so excited to get this on the bed when my mom gets here :)
Just perfect! LOVE it!
It looks amazing. I really like the pattern and you put it together wonderfully.
LOVE IT. Bring it to work so I can see in person. I am back tomorrow. Can't wait to see your quilting and feel it.
Wonderful- your only problem now is that since its in the guest room- your guests won't ever want to leave- they'll just want to stay snuggled under this beauty!
How wonderful to have it DONE. I'll bet it looks great on the guest bed.
Thank you Wendy for bringing it in so I could "fondle" it and you quilting on the is just beautiful, pictures just does not do it justice.
Such a beautiful quilt! That fabric line has really grown on me as I see more projects made from it. Great job on a great finish!! Love that color combination, I will be making a black & white quilt with red accents for my DD this winter - can't wait.
I love how you do your labels. just the basic info, hand-stitched, home-made & really nicely done. OK to copy you?
I was looking at yardage in this line trying to figure out what to do for borders, binding and backing and it paralyzed me! I love them all and could decide on nothing. What a wimp I am! And then I came back to yours and found peace. Sorry. I am so going to copy you! Or at least pretty close. It's one thing seeing the swatches on a web site but when I see them "in person" incorporated in a real quilt it takes all the guess work out. Thanks for this beautiful quilt to copy!
