I love this quilt it is gorgeous and the mix of Terrain with the other fabrics is wonderful I have never used voile so can not offer any help there...but here you on cost of fabric for backing! Sometimes you can find a good sale on a fabric that works online...
Ummm. When I uploaded the project there was something like "Is your project in distress?" and I filled that out. I think that's what did it!
Yes Carolmarie Alex added that option at bottom of new projects as well as where you can update a project so we can ask for help and let people know we need it...it is cool eh?!
Oh, this is wonderful - LOVE the Terrain fabric borders too. Re: backs...have you ever pieced a back? If you have leftover fabric from the front, it is a great way to use it up AND you will not need as much fabric to purchase for the back. I like to use left over blocks (or make an extra block or two from the front), then use a solid (or a fabric which reads solid) to get those blocks to pop...re: using voile - have voile in my stash but have never made anything with it yet! It is so wonderful and drapey. I don't see why it wouldn't be a good choice for a back (other than the price which you pointed out!)
I love the colors in this quilt!
Thanks everyone! Caribousmom I have pieced packs before.... Good idea, I should pull out what I have left and take a look. Ok, you've got my mind in gear. Somehow I latched onto the idea, must be all one fabric. Actually I had originally thought to use that big Terrain print for the back, then where I was ordering it from didn't have enough, then I decided to make it bigger and use it for border instead... I see what my trail of thinking was now!
Good luck - I can't wait to see what you come up with (and I am on board with you regarding that terrain fabric for the back - too bad you couldn't find more, but it makes an awesome border)!
Well, Caribousmom I could find more! But not at the price I was purchasing it for, that ship has sailed :) I haven't had a chance to work on it yet, but I am liking the pieced back idea, thanks so much!
You're welcome - happy to help!
After seeing Wendy's quilts, I may never do a plain back quilt again. She does such a great job it is like two different quilts in one. Pieced backing it the way I would go too. This is so beautiful.
I have sewn a good deal with voile- clothing- I used to smock for my girls and it smocks beautifully- what you have to take into consideration with voile is that it is a more fragile fabric- so if this quilt will be used and loved and washed a lot, you might be running the risk of the fabric wearing down- especially at seams- I used to french seam my voile dresses- otherwise voile is a beautiful fabric.
Beautiful! I love the Terrain fabric you used for borders. I have some of the same stashed away waiting for the right inspiration to strike.
I like your idea of voile for the back, but agree with Mymble, I'd be worried it wouldn't hold up with heavy use. Wendy's pieced backs are fantastic, lots of inspiration and ideas there. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
LOVE how you did the back! So fresh and the perfect compliment to the front! BRAVO!!
Thanks Caribousmom ! My hubby is off with a handful of little ones this afternoon and I am just about to put the 3 year old down for a nap! Then it's just me and my free motion foot, woohoo!
I love it as well..just perfect and hey that model is awfully cute as well...hope he slept well!
Looks like someone is already enjoying it! Beautiful quilting :)
What excellent quilting and it so fits the whole theme of quilt...and yes it looks like someone likes it!
