Description

A close friend's daughter is having a baby at the end of August. My friend was particular about how the quilt should look for her granddaughter. I used Kona snow for the white, the pink is Organic Pure Cotton Pink and the gingham used for the hearts is Carolina gingham....color Candy Cane. Each block is finished at 8 inches with 5 across and 5 down. There are 13 pink blocks and 12 white blocks. I traced the heart onto an 8 1/2 inch gingham block and also cut out a block measuring the same with a lightweight fusible interfacing. I stitched the heart all around, trimmed the excess fabric and clipped around the curves. I then made a cut in just the interfacing to be able to reverse it and have the fusible side out. This gave me perfect heart appliqu├ęs. I ironed on to each white square. Then I hand stitched each heart for extra security. The backing is the same pink and I quilted in the ditch. I used high loft batting for a puffy look based on the request of my friend. It is blinded in the same gingham. Yesterday, I delivered it to my friend and I was nervous that it was what she in visioned. It was perfect...I was relieved.

It is perfect! I love your method for appliqueing the hearts.

I love heart quilts. Especially baby pink heart quilts! it is so cute. Your applique method is one that Eleanor Burns teaches and it does make for smoothly turned edges. I love that you hand-sewed the hearts as well.

What a sweet quilt...I think it is nerve wracking to make one to someone else's specifications so so glad to hear it was perfect!

Janquilter I did not realize Eleanor burns uses that method. I must of saw it during a sat. Morning on PBS when I watch the sewing shows.
True. It was nerve racking since it was all done and I hoped I did not need to make any changes...

This is really sweet! Love those gingham hearts and sweet binding too. I would be so nervous making a custom quilt to someone else's expectations! Sounds like you gave her everything she wanted!!!
