Description

I love Halloween.  When I saw this fabric (Boo to You by Riley Blake) in a bundle at the Houston International Quilt Festival a couple of years ago, I had to have it.  Last year I started cutting and then got distracted.  This year I finally pieced some rows.  I hope to finish this year before Halloween so we can enjoy it for the season.  The plan is to sash it in white between each row of squares to break up the darkness.  It will have a pieced back with white flannel and some scraps, and bound in the dot print if I can find some yardage.  Or just a random black and white dot or stripe if I can't.

SEPTEMBER 4, 2012: I changed my mind and decided to sew the rows together as patchwork.  That part is 35" x 45"  To increase the size, I'll add 5" white borders.  In the borders on the top and bottom I'm going to add a little applique and embroidery.  Also thinking I might quilt the borders with a spider web design...but that might be a little too ambitious as I've never done anything but straight line quilting.  The patchwork part will just be quilted on each side of the seams.

SEPTEMBER 5, 2012: The top is complete.  It measures 44" x 54".  I really love how the borders turned out.  I still hope to quilt them with a spider web design.  Even my husband thought it was cute, and he's a man of few words when it comes to things being "cute".  LOL

SEPTEMBER 28, 2012:  It's done!  And just in time to use it for a whole month.  I had a little trouble squaring this up after quilting, so it's a little wonky, though not as wonky as that one picture will have you think, I just didn't hang it as straight as I thought.  I quilted it with wavy lines.  I meant for it to be a little "messy" but looking at the back, I wish I would have made it a little more obvious that I was trying to make it look scribbley...instead it kind of just looks like I screwed up.  LOL  Anyways, I love it and I'm so happy it's finished.  The back is mostly flannel with some scraps pieced in.  And there's a scrap in the binding, for two reasons...because I thought it would be cute...and because I didn't want to cut another WOF strip when I knew I only needed a few more inches.  :)

This is such fun fabric (love that one in the center front especially!). Who is the designer? I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished.

So cute! I love the little applique Mummy and Cat on the border with the stitching around them. I love Halloween also! Funny note about your husband and getting a "cute" comment. Fabric is darling and has so many fun images. Very fun to look at! Making me hungry for a Three Musketeers or Snickers bar!!
