Description

Making 11 bags from +Jenib320's (Color Order) pattern which I just love!  We are having a fund rasing auction at the mental health/housing agency where I work and got a very cute basket filled with princess type costumes for a little girl.  Basket is lined and so sweet but costumes are just in ziploc bags so I told my Development Director I would make bags.  Also auctioning off a week at a condo on Sanibel Island, Florida and a week at a camp/cabin in Vermont.  So I am making bags that we will fill with items about these trips so people who win have a take away from auction. Thanks +Amanda for inspiring me.

9-29-12 Done!!!

Update 10-12-11 Auction was last night and these bags were a huge success...comments as silent auction was happening (for the princess basket) was around how wonderful these are and how whoever would be opening them would just be so happy.  And questions around would I make them for others for a price;-)  They really drew people to the basket and it sold for $150 I think!

Fabric is from In the Beginning and called Frolic also Riley Blake's Fox Trails and  RJR Fabrics A Shore Thing.

True

Thanks Quilt455 they are pretty easy and pattern is great!

Caribousmom

This is great, True! I bought this pattern too, but I have yet to get my act together and stitch up a bag LOL!

Sewzalot

I love your bag! The fabric is darling. I want to try making one, and very excited to check out Jenib320's pattern.

Amanda

I think it's so cute - I hope they get used in the basket!

Terryt1955

Love the fabric you've chosen! I have this same pattern but like Caribousmom I have yet to make one. Everytime I see it made up I want ot kick myself for being such a slacker. These bags are going to be the highlight of the basket!

True

These bags were the hit of the day at work...everyone loves them! So looks like 10 more are in my future...just ordered more fabric so will have enough in this line but also for two totally different auction needs:-)

Kristananne

I love this pattern! I'm going to try to use the tutorial for adding pockets next. Yours looks great, and yay for getting to make more!

Rebecca

That's awesome True! Glad they went over so well.

True

Kristananne there is one with pockets?! I really love how cute these bags are...

Kristananne

True it's a free tutorial that goes along with the pattern that you have! Here you go: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X-liXCX7pB7vY1FYyYrR84kYkFaELH2bRIr7KjRvyUI/edit?pli=1

Amanda

True, that's great! I'm so glad they liked them (though, of course they did!)

Kristananne - I've seen that tutorial too. I've been wanting to try adding the pockets.

True

Oh my thank you Kristananne

Kristananne

You're welcome! Let me know if you do it, I'd love to get a review on how easy/hard it is.

Caribousmom

These are SPECTACULAR, Mary!!!

True

Caribousmom Thanks Wendy...wish you lived closer I would have you over for dinner and we could whip up the rest;-)!!! I really think this pattern is just so cute:-)

Caribousmom

Oh, man I wish we lived closer too - I'd race right over there! One of these days, we'll meet in person (I have a feeling!!) heart

Aquilterstable

These are great bags! I've made several different sizes, and have really enjoyed them!

True

Aquilterstable Thank you...have you made the laundry bag size...the largest one she shows? If you have I know it says it would fit a quilt but would a lap size (61 x 61) go in it? I am trying to decide if it would work to go with one of my quilts that it so be auctioned off as a storage bag?

Sewnsew

True, those bags are absolutely gorgeous! What a fabulous way to use them, too.

True

Sewnsew Thank you...they sure are adorable...I must say I am ready to be done though;-)

Blueberrymoon

Want !!!! I love them!!

True

Blueberrymoon thank you and I just finished the last three moments ago!!!

Quilterinmotion

True , question for you. I haven't seen this pattern. Could you tell me what sizes are available to be made? They are darling and useful for so many purposes. I'm thinking rather than wrapping paper (which just gets thrown out), why not put gifts in these darling bags? Thanks for the idea.

True

Quilterinmotion if you click on blue tutorial button it will take you to the pattern and she shows them and also describes what might fit in each size. She gives you measurements for everything from 4.5 x 5 to 26 x 17 BUT the best part is she also gives you instruction for figuring out how to make a custom bag of any size you want! I think they are a great idea for gifts instead of wrapping paper. I also have another fabric bag pattern that I use for that purpose that looks more like a traditional paper gift bag and uses interfacing which I also love and my mom has been using hers for years now (she and her friends pass them back and forth:-) Also I have made sets of like 5 and given them as a gift!

Quilterinmotion

True , thanks so much. I went over after I left that message and checked it out. How about a pic of the "traditional gift bag"?

True

Quilterinmotion I do not have any pictures of the bag I have made but here is the link. In case it gets cut off google allpeoplequilt.com and search for fabric gift bag and it will come up for you.

Quilterinmotion

True , thanks. I'll go look at it but I think I love your drawstrings and they are SO useful for anything from toys to make-up to knitting to........

True

Quilterinmotion Once I made a few in the size they give you I figured out how to make them in all kinds of sizes to meet my needs...people just love both these bag patterns you should see the reaction when you give them! And because you can use all kinds of different fabrics or make stripes or whatever you really can personalize them as well as make for all occassions

True

Quilterinmotion On Jenib320 's blog I think she recently showed how to make the bags with stripes, etc. really cute. I also made a bag to go with the Rays of Hope quilt for the auction...it is posted under that quilt project. I think the next time I make a baby quilt I will make a matching bag and give it to the new mom in the bag which she can then use however she wants!

Aquilterstable

True Yes, I HAVE made the laundry size. I do think it would fit a lap quilt folded up. (Gave it to my mom so I can't check.) There is a pic in this post of it 'standing' in a chair - it's pretty good size. http://aquilterstable.blogspot.com/2012/01/monday-finishes.html

True

Aquilterstable Thanks I ended up making the laundry size for a quilt that was @64x64 and there was more than enough room for an even
larger quilt to fit in it.

Aquilterstable

oh great - glad to know that works. It's a good idea!

True

Aquilterstable If you roll the quilt it would fit a really big one I bet!

Aquilterstable

True Cool. Good to know.

Bentneedle

I love these! I need to make some. Seriously. I never have enough pretty bags for my knitting projects.

True

Bentneedle thank you it is a great pattern and I am serious everyone who has seen them has gone nuts for them...it is almost comical the reaction they bring out!

Quilt455

just love these. Thanks of sharing you pattern

True

Quilt455 You are welcome... Jenib320 really has a winning pattern here...it is well written, easy and the end results bring joy to all!

Caribousmom

Congratulations on a successful auction!!

True
