Description

My dear mom gave this to me when she heard me saying I needed a small pressing board right next to my sewing area. I knew it wasn't quite what I wanted but didn't want to hurt her feelings (I did not take a before picture to show what a sorry state this was in). The fabric was so old it was distentigrating witht he slightest touch. So after removing at least 50 staples I came down to the wood sleleton and realized it was a pressing board my dad had made for my mom when she was just learning how to sew, at least 50 years ago. No wonder the fabric was literally dissolving! So with a couple of layers of batting and some leftover fabric from another project I recovered it. I love just keeping it out to see as a reminder of my parents. And it did come in handy when I had to press my grandson's tux for a wedding he was in last week. A tux for a one year old!

Terry,
How nice to press a tux for your grandson on a pressing board that your dad had made....can't get more special than that! I love things like that...it adds such special touch to a room.

Kristananne

I love the story behind this as much as how great it looks! I bet your grandson looked so dashing in his little tux too. :)

True

Love the story and the fabric!!!

Maura

Great story and amazing finished piece! What does your mother think?

Terryt1955

Maura I haven't showed it to my mom yet but I'm sure she'll get a kick out of the makeover.
Thanks True , Jschlender and Kristananne for the kind words. It's amazing what a little fabric can do!

Stitch

I have one of these that I picked up at a garage sale, and it needs a new cover too! Did you staple the fabric on? I think mine has a gathering string that pulls the fabric in around the board.

Hi Stitch . So very cool that you found one at a garage sale. I staped my batting and fabric on since that's what was done previously. If I wasn't so lazy I would have made a casing with a draw string. Oh well, no one sees the underneath! I want to see yours all dressed up.
