Nursery Quilt by Illogicalkat
So far, this is my favorite quilt that I've made. Right after I learned I was pregnant, my mom sent me a Better Homes & Gardens magazine with a sticky note on the front telling me which page the pattern she liked was on. I immediately flipped to it and agreed...except it was all in pink. We had no idea at the time whether we were expecting a boy or a girl. So I set out to make this quilt in all colors, figuring that pink and blue would be fine if they were mixed with yellow, red and green. (And it's a good thing I didn't make this in pink. We're having a boy.)
I had all of the 4"x4" squares pieced, and a few strips pieced together before nausea took over my life for two months. Once that passed, I started working on it again. Once the top was pieced, I realized I'd forgotten to write down the fabric lines used. (It's made from a fat quarter bundle that is mostly from the "Apple of My Eye" and "Millie's Closet" collections.) It took a couple hours of searching online fabric stores to find the prints I would use for the backing and binding.
I'm not scared of free-motion quilting, but for this quilt I couldn't come up with a design I liked. I also didn't like the diagonal straight-line quilting used in the pattern. So this is sort-of stitched in the ditch, I actually used a quilting foot and made a stair-step pattern outlining the squares.
The only thing I'm missing is a label, which I have never used on a quilt before...but this is also the first quilt I've made that is really special to me.
