Description

I saw all sorts of these faux chenille/cut chenille blankets all over the net, and tracked down the blogger responsible for the craze.  It appears on Anneliese's blog, http://www.aestheticnest.com.  The link for the tutorial is http://www.aestheticnest.com/2010/08/sewing-heirloom-cut-chenille-baby.html.
This is the first one I made; now they are my go to baby gift. I love how they work up. The more you wash it, the cuddlier it gets.
Funky Monkey is one of many blankies I've made for my grandbaby since his arrival.
I've made enough of these now, I finally bought a chenille cutter that has made the process so much easier and quicker (this one was done with scissors and took many hours of cutting 1/2 inch channels).
It's 4 layers of flannel, with channels sewn every 1/2 inch, on the diagonal. I didn't use double napped flannel for one of the layers, and wish I had.  I put a binding of handmade satin in white around the borders.
I guess that just means I'll have to make him a new one!

I have seen chenille quilts for years, but never made one. This is adorable and looks so soft.

Thanks Janquilter. The baby's at an age now where he knows they're monkeys, and this has become one of the blankets he has to have nearby.
