Description

Design is my own, although it's just an arrangement of half square triangles. I wanted to challenge myself to make a donation quilt entirely from my stash that was fast and easy but still attractive. I used the Strip Tubing ruler so that I could use 2 1/2" strips--something I have a ton of in my stash due to strip exchanges and the like. I started out with my least favorite strip in the stash (another challenge to myself) and built the colors from there. I called it "Fortune" because it was my response to so many "unfortunate" donation quilts I'd witnessed done with no concern for design or attractiveness. So this was my "fortunate" quilt, shortened to "Fortune." (Mind you, there are a ton of gorgeous donation quilts out there. I just find myself gritting my teeth whenever I hear someone say, "Use your ugly fabrics in charity quilts." Urgh. I had just completed the process of finishing two of the worst donation quilts I'd ever seen that had been given as tops to our guild to finish and donate. I was a bit frustrated at the time.) It was donated to a women's shelter.

Love it!! Turned out very well. You should be proud. :) I'm definitely in agreement about the whole 'use your uglies in donation quilts'....makes me cringe every time I hear that. :/

Allpatchedup Thanks!

this is beautiful. And I am with you about the "ugly" fabric. I truely believe we should use our prettiest fabric..

Quilt455 I'm looking to start a campaign. "No Ugly Donation Quilts!" smile

What a beautiful quilt!! The recipient will cherish it. I too, will join your campaign. When I brought home my first foster baby, the hospital sent along one of the ugliest quilts I had ever seen, saying it was donated. That spurred me to create, and give, pretty baby quilts with nice fabrics to the hospital to hand out.

LOVE this and love your reason for making it. Everyone deserves something beautiful in their lives and no one more than someone in a position to be receiving a quilt as a donation. I run a nonprofit housing and mental health agency and I can tell you first hand the joy such a beautiful quilt would bring if given to one of our clients! So I support your campaign as well and thank you.
