Description

Well the 'category' is really art as it's certainly not a quilt.  Our guild Independence Hall Quilters has a guild challenge each year, and this year it was to be a mono-chromatic piece using at least 6 shades of your color.  I just couldn't help myself.  I had just finished reading all three of the E.L. James books and just had to do 50 Shades of Grey.  It's the cover of the third book, just in case you haven't read them.  I drew the image first and then using the 'snippets' technique created it in fabric.

I own a long-arm, but as you can see the piece is pin-based because I'm actually going to quilt it on my domestic machine.  I am going to use about 15 different thread colors including silver metallic and nylon thread and it will just be easier to make all of those thread changes on the small machine.

It's already entered in our local quilt show for the weekend of October 20th, so it HAS to get done!

And it's done!  Whew!  Just in time too as I need to deliver this piece, along with two others tomorrow for the show on Friday.

Just had to add a picture of the finished piece as it was hanging at our guild show last month.  I received a 3rd place for our guild challenge too!

Wow! This is amazing work! I can't wait to see it quilted with all those different thread colors.

Wow what talent...will be a real piece of art!

Thanks! I'll have to update the pictures and show one from a bit farther away. I cropped these too close and the pieces blend much better when viewed from a distance.

Thanks! The application has already been accepted to display this at our show in two weeks, so I'll DEFINITELY be working on it this week. :}

This is really a cool project. Have you done other art quilts? Landscapes?

Tjoel2

Yes, I actually have done other fabric art pieces. I did a replica of a famous Woodstock picture last year.
