Description

I've never done any kind of friendship braid and thought this would be a good project to try. My weekly quilt group was having an over nighter hosted by the LQS and this was the project. Our leader said it only should take 90 minutes to construct the top. After 3 hours I stopped. Although it's easy to assemble once you get the rhythm it does take a little more time than 90 minutes. I'm hoping to make a couple more of these in Christmas fabric to give as gifts. Just maybe not THIS Christmas!

I've never had to bind something with a 135 degree angle so this will be a new challenge. Thanks goodness for the internet!

Just realized this is a free pattern available at mccallsquilting.com. Just select the Bonuses tab up at the top and then scroll to the Halloween Table Runner. Enjoy!

Oct. 16th: finished the table runner and found out that binding a 135 degree angle is no biggie. I found a good tutorial for it on ankastreasures.com with LOTS of good pictures. What did people do before the internet? My grandson kept taking it as I was trying to take a picture of it. I think he thinks it's a mini quilt for him. It would work as a cape but that's about it.Silly rabbit!

Kruppcake

Very nice! The orange diamonds really "pop". Can't wait to see what color binding you decide to use.

Cowgirl4ever

I love this!! I think that I have this pattern and know just the halloween fabrics to use if I have enough. Is it a quilt as you go?

True

Really cute but 90 minutes??? Yeah right! It is going to be wonderful and fun when done!

Kathie

I love the color combinations! It took me a day just to figure out how to place the fabrics on my friendship braid then much longer to sew it all together ... 90 minutes is pretty fast smile !

Terryt1955

True and Kathie , I'm so glad to hear that 90 minutes wasn't realistic. It's kind of deflating when I feel like I'm flunking the class! Cowgirl4ever , I heard people saying that it could easily be a quilt as you go however we didn't treat it as such. Kruppcake , thanks I rather like the pops of orange myself with the cornerstones. ZI'm going with a black polka dot binding. Just love polka dots and stripes.

Sewzalot

Love your tablerunner. Looks like a 2-day project-and working pretty hard at it!! I love the tablerunner design-allows for lots of cute halloween fabrics!

Cowgirl4ever

Terryt1955 Ok so the pattern I have is a little different. Knowing that I think I will try to sew it regular rather than quilt as you go.. then I can decide on the backing later.

Terryt1955

Cowgirl4ever , I've never done a QAYG but it sounds so slick and fast. Then again all the quilting will be hidden :(. I want to see your fabric you're going with` make a "new project" and take a picture of it!

Sewnsew

Terryt1955 It is going to be awesome when you have finished it!

Charlie

Cant' wait to see it. I just inherited a small batch of halloween scraps that would look great in this pattern. Where did you find the pattern?

Terryt1955

For all those interested this is a free pattern located at mccallsquilting.com. Just select the Bonuses tab at the top and scroll down to the Halloween Table Runner. I can totally see this in any holiday fabric or ANY fabric to make up a cute relatively fast runner. ( Charlie , Cowgirl4ever , Carolmarie , True , Kathie , Kruppcake , Sewzalot , _Sewnsew)

Cowgirl4ever

Terryt1955 I like the way yours looks better. Yours just pops better. But I have printed out the pattern and put it in my to do file.

Kathie

Terryt1955 Thank you! I have it saved!

Terryt1955

Cowgirl4ever , it's the same pattern that I used. It's all about what fabric you choose.

Charlie

Thanks!

Quilt455

Love it. Thanks for the tip on the pattern

True

Omg he is cute!!! Now to the quilt...I love it! Really cute and glad to hear about binding!

Dzirin

Very cute

AllPatchedUp

What a cutie pie!! (The grandson that is ;) Nice tablerunner too! I love the happy little jack o'lanterns on the back...how fun! :)

Sewnsew

What a little cutie your grandie is! Your table runner is fabulous. Thank you for the link.

Terryt1955

Thanks everyone! ( True , Dzirin , Allpatchedup , Sewnsew ). When I saw Emmett trying to put it on his little chair it made me realize I need to make him a smaller quilt that he can drag around. The ones I made him are quite large. He needs a "blankie".

Sewnsew

Terryt1955 That is really sweet!

True

Terryt1955 he does!!!

Conniharns

Terryt1955 this is really cute. Love the design and your fabric choices. You sure get alot of projects done!!! Wish I could be so quick! BTW...grandson..adorable!

Terryt1955

Thanks Conniharns ! I think I'm making up for lost time when the kids were young and underfoot. Now they are wondering when this quilting "phase" is going to pass because they want me doing other stuff (like cooking Sunday dinner!). HA!

Sewnsew

lol Do you tell them they are old enough to cook it themselves?

Terryt1955

Sewnsew , they are more than old enough to cook! And they all do cook but they want me in the kitchen with them like we use to do. I'm kind of obsessive compulsive. When I get involved with something it's all or nothing. And now I can totally indulge this obsession and lovin every minute of it!

Tinabartk

Beautiful baby boy! (And table runner)

Sewnsew

Terryt1955 It is really lovely that they enjoy spending time with you. I understand completely about all or nothing, too!

Terryt1955

Sewnsew , I'm sure there needs to be a support group started for us! On the one hand it's good because you get things done on the other hand everything else goes to crap as it gets shoved aside. I really need to get a sewing room set up so I can close the door on my madness!

Cowgirl4ever

Terryt1955 Your grandson is adorable!! Love the finished runner. Do you do machine embroidery? I have a design that I got from Anita Goodesign that is called a Taggy Blanket I think.. its cute though.. just the little ones size.. smiles

Cowgirl4ever

Terryt1955 I lied the design is part of the project collection by Anita Goodesign and is called Sweet Dreams

Terryt1955

Cowgirl4ever I just checked out Sweet Dreams. How darling. Love the bear! I have machine appliqued in the past but didn't like how stiff everything turned out. I didn't know about cutting out the center part of the fusible webbing!

Cowgirl4ever

Terryt1955 I am learning about that stuff too. I have a BOM called Family Reunion and a couple others by pearl Louise and I want them to be perfect if I am going to spend that much money and time.

Terryt1955

Cowgirl4ever , yeah when I saw that $39 price tag for the Sweet Dreams pattern I thought that was pretty pricey. I always think I can draw it up myself (what a joke) and then I end up doing nothing.

Cowgirl4ever

Terryt1955 I thought the they were pretty pricey too but have found that I really like them. A dealer would sell it to you for $29. The Anita website charges $10 more to encourage you to buy from your local dealer. But I have found some of their disks on ebay for good prices too. Originals not copies of some one elses.

Terryt1955

Good to know Cowgirl4ever . I can stomach $29!
