Description

Joined in a sampler quilt class at TheQuiltShow.com led by Laura Nownes.  I hand dyed the coloured fabrics myself, but discovered that my rubber dyeing gloves had rotted through at the finger tips, hence the name.  I wasn't certain about taking part until one of the other ladies mentioned making it half size, at which point I wondered about making it miniature ie 1/12th scale. in the end I went with full size of 6" blocks around the outside and 1/6th scale of 1"blocks for the centre.  When finished it will be a bed quilt for our guest bed. but currently it is on display at Hedon Museum as part of my EG branch exhibition.

May - finished the top, sourced some fabric for a backing, but want to buy some wool batting for it.  My plan is to get it finished in time to enter it into The Great Northern Quilt Show this August.

August Bank Holiday - I've completely finished it and will be taking it to be exhibited at Harrogate's Great Northern Quilt Show for this weekend.

Words escape me for those tiny blocks...amazing and so gorgeous!!

Posyp

True Thank-you. The trickiest bit was working out the 1/3" measurement ;)

Janquilter

I have NO idea how to make blocks that tiny...I bow to your expertise! The whole quilt is gorgeous.

Cowgirl4ever

Beautiful!!

Posyp

Cowgirl4ever The same way as larger ones - find out what is the finished size of the block/pieces & add on 1/2" for seams, it just gets a bit fiddly holding things together & putting it under the machine foot. Also you don't have the advantage of being able to 'ease' things to fit.

Melanie

this is so happy! And such tiny pieces. Love it!

Clairealex

What a neat idea, to combine big and little blocks! I'm impressed by the small flying geese in the sawtooth star! I'll try it some day soon.

Tinastitches

Wow! When I first saw the photo, I had no idea how tiny the blocks were. Now that's an impressive miniature.

True

Continues to amaze me...good luck finishing and with show!

It must have been a glitch in the system as it was clairealex's picture that showed up as one of your project photos on my iPad!

Your quilt is just charming!

Clairealex

Laweigel That's too funny! Now if I'd been quilting in the photo...History: Library had an "Everybody reads" book from Portland and a challenge to submit photos of ourselves at places named in the book. Posyp I love the finished quilt!

Kathie

This is wonderful! I love the colors and the little piecings in the white border are genius! Did you also quilt this? Beautiful!

Posyp

Yes, mostly on my Janome MyStyle 22 using a walking foot, but some of it - the corner rosettes and the flowers in the wide border were done using my Gran's old handcrank Singer.

Jenniesthreads

I saw this quilt for real at Harrogate today and it is even more impressive in real life - I cannot believe how tiny those tiny blocks are and just how accurate your points are! Amazing!

Posyp

Jenniesthreads Thanks. Looking forward to going tomorrow myself and getting a decent photo of it ;)

Chandra
