Description

I was contracted to make a 21st birthday memory quilt for a lovely lady to present to her Daughter at w slap up 21st Birthday bash. I was emailed some photos, told the colour theme for the party was black, white, silver and purple and the quilt size to be a little larger than lap size. The rest was up to me. Wow - I didn't know whether to be excited or terrified first!! I was humbled by the trust given to me to design and create such an emotive Family heirloom and gift from a parent to a child for such a significant event. Even though I was working with a wrist in plaster (!!) I didn't want to compromise the design I had in mind and so battled on with lots of small pieces of fabric!! A great learning experience for me with this quilt was learning to scan, edit and print through Picasa 3 which I had not done before. I had not printed on fabric before either so this was another first. I am very pleased with the final result and was proud to send it off. The birthday bash has yet to be held so I am holding my breath a little hoping the Young Lady likes it. (i have permission to post photos of the quilt showing the photos of the Young Lady)

You did a fantastic job. And you used PURPLE! I see so many b&w quilts with red accents which is lovely...but purple...that's just perfect and makes it really stand out against the crowd (as well as match their theme). I'm sure her mom loved it, and I can't even imagine how the recipient will react. What a special treasure for her to carry with her for the rest of her life!

Cinda . Thanks sew much for your lovely words. What can I say - making this quilt was no hardship. I am a purple gal and the emotional nature of the quilt also appealed to me. I have heard back from my client and both she and her daughter were thrilled with the quilt. Put a great big smile on my face and in my heart. blue_heart Karen
