My First Quilt (for Grace) by Ohalloranaoife
My boyfriend's brother and girlfriend were having a baby, far far away in Australia. So I wanted to make something substantial for them to have. I'd started quilts and quilt ideas a few times as a teenager, but had never gotten beyond the cutting out stage, really. So when I was stuck at home for 6 weeks at the start of 2012 I began this quilt from charm packs and 5" pre-cut squares I found online and just went for it. I really really enjoyed it, and am currently on my 3rd and 4th quilts.
You can read more about the construction of this quilt on my blog at http://irishthredhead.blogspot.ie/2012/10/the-last-my-first-post-my-first-quilt.html
. We knew the baby was a girl, but I didn't want to go overly girly in the colours, but instead went for ones I really loved myself, lots of vibrant colours. Hopefully, perfect for stimulating babies... I heavily relied on advice from the internet and quilting blogs, particularly useful was Flossie Teacake's tutorial on 'How to make a Quilt'.
