Description

This is a charm quilt--all pieces different fabrics. I hand pieced and hand quilted it, while on the road.

My sister and I had a QAL, and her quilt is hanging in her hallway. My Japanese :flags: quilt friend made one also, and hers is hanging in her entryway. And two more Japanese :kimono: quilt friends are hand piecing their own Charming Neighborhood quilt now, also. It is a contagious design!!!

The pattern I followed was in American Patchwork and Quilting magazine.  Interestingly, I did a search and found a similar pattern online, for a modern version of the same quilt here.

I hand quilted a heart in each dark house and a swag around the inside border.

How beautiful! And I love that it was all hand work!

It is a really lovely quilt.

Sewnsew Janquilter Terryt1955 Thank you, Terry, Jan and Sew! It is facinating to look at all the different prints, when I made, and still now.

I was playing around with graph paper on this one because it was just so cute and I was in a doodling mood. Did you use charms for both the houses and the sky?

Aizome

Terryt1955 I did use charms & the same template for the light fabrics. Check my notes--a link is there for a modern, simplified version.

Terryt1955 I did just measure my quilt, if you're interested in making both the lights & darks in charms. The finished houses are 3" square, with the roof starting at 1" down from top edges. Does that make sense??? house

Thanks Aizome ! I didn't see the link to Modabakeshop until you pointed it out. Although I absolutely LOVE the Mama Said Sew line of fabric your quilt has a lot more character.

Terryt1955 Awww, thank you for the compliment! It is a bit of a catalog of my fabric stash from that moment in time, and that is a fun reminder, something that will live on in history.

Kathie

I just love this quilt design! The hand stitching adds so much to it; very beautiful work.

Kathie Thanks, Kathie! There's something about hand sewing that's very meditative & satisfying.
