Description

This was my second quilt, and the first which I designed myself.  I'd just read Ruth McDowell's Piecing Workshop, and was eager to try designing with freezer paper.  The smallest fish and the weeds are appliquéd, but everything else was pieced, including the background.  The background was from the Gradation range by SewBatik, and shaded over four different shades of turquoise, which I was careful to keep in my quilt.  I'll also be putting up my Turtle baby quilt, where I used the same background but arranged the pieces differently.  I also embroidered coral onto the quilt, and added details such as a snail in the quilting.  The whole thing came together very fast: I think it was about three days each for the piecing, appliqué and embroidery.  As always with baby quilts, it was great fun to work on.

The quilt went to my oldest friend, for her first baby.

Love this...the colors and fish are so perfect for a baby...and adorable baby as well. Again fact you do this all by hand just blows my mind...

It was dead quick, honest! Although that green batik was quite stiff, so not the best choice for learning needle-turn appliqué on, especially since these were the days before I discovered starch.

Lovely work and professional for only a 2nd quilt, I do a lot of handwork too and find it relaxing.

This is beautiful. You have a real gift for design (and execution), not only with this quilt, but with the gorgeous Welsh quilting patterns you've designed for some of your other quilts.

I can't believe you're doing all these by hand?! However you're doing them, I love your work.
