Description

This was my first quilt - I took a "first quilt in a weekend" class at my LQS and they delivered! It's a basic nine patch. I'm not completely thrilled with it because I didn't choose fabrics that were contrasting enough so the patches would pop!. I was advised by my instructor when I was picking out fabrics that this might happen - but ohhhh! nooo! I knew better (lesson one listen to your instructor). I do like the backing I picked however.

I had numerous problems with my sewing machine (which I have since replaced) and the quilt sat languishing until January when I sat down and finished the binding. I made one discovery that day - I love hand stitching!

I really like your fabric choices. What a wonderful first quilt. Another quilter is born with this one.

True

I think this is an awesome first quilt and I too like the fabric... I learn new things every time I make one.

Quilbee

Very nice! Are you working on your next quilt yet : ) ?

Thank you everyone for the kind words! I really enjoyed making this one - and actually took a second "First Quilt" class at another store. I'll have to post some pics of that one too!

Quilbee I've completed another crib sized quilt that I took in another beginner class (will post pics soon). At present I seem to have all sorts of projects in the works - I'll probabely take me forever to actually get some of them to completion : )

Mymble

I really like it- I understand what the instructor was advising you, and yes, she has a valid point - in theory- but the reality of what you came up with is lovely- very dense and saturated- but that's not a bad thing just different. The truly great thing about quilting now is that the rules are there, and many should be recognized, but there is also room for variation- especially with prints and this lovely quilt proves it.

Mymble ahhh! Good point about the "rules". I was pretty disappointed initially but it was my first quilt so I've come to like it alot.
