Description

I'm in the process of working my way through The Colette Sewing Handbook, and the first sewing project in the book is a cute vintage inspired skirt with a scalloped hem.  I stopped at the store and got some great fabric, my hook and eyes, and my invisible zipper this week.

I'm in love with the fabric I picked out.  It's a floral print from the Little Black Dress line.  I also got some grey material from this line to make a boat neck style top to go with it... though I don't have any patterns in mind for that yet.  If you know of an easy to follow pattern for a basic boat neck top, please let me know.

I've got a couple other projects to finish before I start on this in earnest, but that might be a good thing because this pattern says I need an invisible zipper presser foot - and that is something I do not have.  Can I install an invisible zipper without this magical presser foot?

**Update 11/14/2012**
Thanks to my lovely twitter friends who have informed me that I don't need a special invisible zipper foot.  I'll try to get the fabric for this skirt washed up tonight.

**Update 11/17/2012**
I decided that this would be my Virtual Craft Night project this week, and it was a great project to pick.  I have the skirt almost completed.  All that's left to do is add a catch stitch to the hemline and and hook and eye to the waist.  I'm thrilled with how quickly and easily this pattern went together.  I do wish done a better job with the invisible zipper, but other than that, the skirt looks great.

**Update 11/18/2012**
Put my catch stitch on this evening.  That means the skirt is done.  I love how it came out.  Now, if I could only do a better job with my zippers.

ooohhh can't wait to see!

Really cute and no- don't need the foot-just take your time around the teeth, and be careful when you press out the zipper tape not to let the iron touch the zipper teeth. This is going to be adorable- so French!!!!

Really cute

So cute!! And it looks so great on you! Very well done! I can't wait to see the rest of your Colette projects!

Looks great- and whatever isn't perfect about your zipper- well we can't tell because the print covers it - so no worries- I've done a zillion zippers and they can still make me break out in a cold sweat every once in a while- and it's usually in the simplest of patterns-where I know it might really show- they're just that way-anyway- the skirt looks great and that's what counts!
