Description

I keep changing my mind when my grandson will get this quilt . He'll turn two in July so I'm now aiming for that time. I got a little hung up on the border. My son (his father) loves pirates so I just had to make this one!

It's the end of June and I've finally back at working on the pirate quilt. I have lots of plans for the actual quilting so I may finish just in time for the birthday boy's July 4th big day!
I've added the tutorial by Jenny Doan for the pattern to the quilt; btw it takes 2 charm packs for the coin border.

Beginning of July: I finished piecing the backing, ironed seams open and now need to get up the nerve to quilt on my machine!

Oct. 8th: I finally finished the quilting and I'm ready to bind the quilt. Whew! This has taken quite awhile to finish.

Oct. 9th: I spent all day hand sewing the binding on and now I'm done! I am so excited for my family (especially my grandson) to see it completed ! I am so happy how it turned out BUT I probably wouldn't use the variegated colored thread next time (next time? this is a one and only pirate quilt!).

I quilted with a wavy design on my machine as I felt it added to the ocean theme. I wanted the chevron to stand out so I used a straight echo for that border.

Hooray!

Update:  I just returned from Austin and I was able to take a phone picture of the quilt washed and on Cameron's bed. I've added ^cameron-s-pirate-honey-bun-pouf and now I just have to finish the bunting for his room.

What a cool quilt for a little boy and his daddy. This will grow up with him and probably go off to college with him.

This is great I love the fabrics. My little guy is going to have tons of quilts.. so far animal print, farm and US navy all in the works. This was great inspiration thanks.

This is so close to being finished! Have you started quilting it yet....One of the pictures looks like you have.

Kathie

Tjoel2 Yes, I only have the edge border to finish for the quilting. It's pretty heavy and I'm quilting on my Viking Emerald 203 so it's taking me awhile smile ! It has to be done before Oct. 11th (they're coming out from Texas). His birthday was July 4th so I took the top that was pieced for him to see, now it looks very different and I'm really happy with the results.
