I have the "Dear Jane" book. I love looking at the squares. Sometimes I even attempt to make them. When I do, I try making them in 8" squares instead of 4"...it's just much easier for me.
So these came out of a desire to try out the Mohawk Trail block. I had also just gotten the Triangulations CD, and was anxious to try that, as well, since every attempt I have made at half-square triangles just comes out...not so square.
And it turns out that sewing through paper and fabric, and then ripping the paper off the fabric, is just so much fun, that before I knew it I had 3 quilt blocks. And then I didn't know what to do with them, until I started thinking about Christmas gifts.
These are now hot pads for my mother-in-law. Her home is small enough that she can only justify holding on to useful things, but I believe that everything she uses deserves to be beautiful. She is also an artist herself, and appreciates getting unique gifts that can be used every day.
And in addition to being an artist, she is a children's author as well, and because I love her, here is a link to her website in case you are interested: http://www.tukietales.com/
