Description

This piece was inspired by an embroidery pack that I won so I wanted to see how I could use it layered over a pieced design.  The top is pieced with neutrals from stash, mix of batiks and cottons.  The intent of the embroidery stars was to add interest to the quilt top.  Learned a lot about embroidery - removed french knots from star edges on some designs as they were too thread intensive.  Next time with stabilize with additinal layers of wash away as there was a great deal of distortion.  Quilting was a real challange due to distortion - I chose to put a base design in each block using Aurafil (color to blend with background) on top so that it did not interfere with the embroidery but I did not have to quilt around or avoid the embroidery.

This is amazingly gorgeous...I really love it.

I don't see much distortion given the intensity of the embroidery! Overall I really like the effect with the pieced neutrals and the quilting.
