Description

Made this from a panel for our Pastor's wife. She loves light houses. I was originally going to cut out that central panel and do a mini project with it but found out from her daughter and DIL that she actually loves ships, and nautical images in general, and also that she doesn't really need any new wall hangings, but could use something to drape across the end of the guest bed, so this was born. I had a heck of a time with it. First couldn't find an appropriate border fabric except this home dec weight, so that was a challenge to sew due to the two different weights. Then I nearly cut the batting too small (technically it was too small for quilting guidelines, but since it was a small project with minimal quilting, it didn't take up as much of the batting and worked out anyway). I had planned to do a hemmed binding but as I was trimming the batting back I accidentally cut into the backing fabric. I tried to patch it but it looked horrible. So then I had to trim down the backing as well and do a true binding.

It had quite a few challenges, but I think it was worth it as I really love the way it turned out. (And the brown binding looks much better than a hemmed binding would because the backing is a blue and brown print).
