Description

July 20, 2008: My version of the Dear Jane. OH, I have a long way to go. I just need to work on a block a month if I ever want to finish this thing. I just don't like paper piecing so I'm dreading working on it but I do have about 25 blocks done so I should think about working on it some more. I can't imagine working solely on this quilt though. It seems like you just do a little in between working on other things. My problem is the in between part, heh. It's a shame because each of these little blocks really are fun and satisfying to make.

2010: Edited later to add, I don't think I'm actually going to attempt the whole traditional Dear Jane quilt. I really wanted to but the more I think about it the less appealing it sounds. I guess the most off putting thing is the paper piecing which is just a technique I don't care for. So instead I've designed a very modern version in my head using the blocks I've already completed. Now just to assemble!

Feb 6, 2013: Decided to wrap this one up.  Don't know what I was waiting for, it didn't take me very long to finish up the top once I'd decided what I wanted to do.  Now to just quilt it!

Love the blue and brown color combo you've used in many of your blocks. I like paper piecing but hate applique, so I will probably never make all of the blocks.

Jennifleur

Jbr , I love appliqué and hate paper piecing! We should swap quilts half way through so we could both have complete tops. smile

The layout design you have in your book is quite stunning. It will be interesting to see the layout you have planned with the blocks you have completed. I think a Dear Jane quilt is more about the journey and every quilt has its own story. I'm looking forward to seeing your blocks together in your quilt.

Quilting patterns were made to be modified. Go for it!

Jennifleur "I love appliqué ...." And yours is so beautifully done. Mine always looks like a ratty mess. I suppose if I practiced more, but I don't want to spend my sewing time doing something I don't enjoy. (That's why the mending pile is so high!)

Your colour combo is fabulous!

Zoebird2005 Me too. Guess that means I actually have to finish the thing though? wink

Jennifleur

Clairealex I plan to! smile

Jbr I hear ya! Life is too short to work on "fun" things that you hate doing.

Juline

I love the mix of traditional design with the use of batiks.
